Transhuman

The last genetic tie to humanity out in the black.

Transhumans consist of three different types of peoples: Cyborgs, Genets, and Tubels. They have a population density that continues to grow as opposed to their Neo Terran cousins, thanks to their still biological-based forms. However, with so few completely habitable and welcome homeworlds to their name, Transhumans struggle with having a strong foothold on their declared territory in the Surro Aster Cluster.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Transhumans are the next evolutionary cycle of the Terrans still living, and now dying, on Earth. Genetically and nano-technologically modified, they don’t fully identify themselves under the umbrella term of Terrans--beings of Earth. They no longer view themselves in the same way as their biological ancestors, although they acknowledge their genetic similarities and beginnings. Their technological modifications have changed them too much from who humans used to be, no matter the medical breakthroughs that allowed for extended life. However, most tech modifications are subtle, like enhancing their bones and skeleton with nano-machines, advancing their healing, and their vision. There are others, though, who choose to become more mechanical in nature. Their spines, jaws, and even their hair was replaced, along with other extremities such as their arms and legs.   Transhumans are extremely varied depending on how a group on Earth chose to deal with the hostile environments they’d find in the Alpha Avior System.

Genetics and Reproduction

While it is difficult for a Transhuman to conceive due to their varied environment, the process is much like a human—a normal Terran—performs. Transhumans, like with Terrans, have live births. However most are sterile, and so create fully formed, tube-grown people called Tubels.

Growth Rate & Stages

Transhumans grow at the same rate as a normal Terran does, having their genes enhanced in ways they couldn't in utero during these formative years. However, once they hit the age of thirty, their lifespan tends to lengthen, and their aging slows down to close to a crawl.

Ecology and Habitats

While Transhumans can technically genetically modify themselves in order to survive in more hostile star systems, this process takes time and is very delicate both when done in utero or when fully grown. What they need is a basic Earth-world atmosphere, or something similar, with fertile topsoil for farming and planting.

Dietary Needs and Habits

If the planet a Transhuman is on has plants or animals, then you can be sure that they will try to harvest and hunt said indigenous species. Often, they will take their food back home to store, and sometimes will have it transported onto an orbital base, instead of a ground base.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Modified, metallics and bioengineering. Enhanced, mechanical eyes or jaws, etc. Transhumans, much like their Neo Terran counterparts, are extremely varied as per human decision making, allowing for different colored hair, tattoos, and scarring.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Transhumans are found only in the Surro Aster Cluster, or sometimes in ships around Neo Terran Space.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Genets had already genetically modify their senses to allow for sharper eyesight and hearing while back in the Sol System. Tubels are grown with such modifications. Cyborgs, meanwhile, took their usual mechanical route and completely replaced those organs with an artificial alternative. This allows for things such as infrared vision and ultraviolet sight for cyborgs.

History

Created mostly during the Transhumanism movement, Transhumans were a counterpoint to the posthuman movement, Neo Terranism, believing that it was unethical for humanity to turn its back on their biological selves. Instead of abandoning their human bodies, they worked to modify them.   They were stuck on a dying Earth while their cousins, Neo Terrans, left them behind on waves of ships headed for the Alpha Avior System. Struggling to adapt enough to survive on their dying planet, many of them moved from Earth to the other planets in their solar system. However, even those planets—Mars, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto—and the space around them had been over-populated long before Neo Terrans left. They then realized that they had to leave their solar system entirely, and to follow the Neo Terrans to the new land.   While the Neo Terrans kept leaving Earth in waves, Transhumans struggled to put together ships and to modify themselves to their fullest extent. While not all were able to make it off of Earth before it truly began to kill everyone, a surprisingly large amount were able to leave the system to go to Alpha Avior. While traveling through space, similar to Neo Terrans, they went into cryo sleep, while a crew watched over them and maintained their pods. Passive gene therapies continued to be administered to the passengers and crew, to further enhance their ability to survive on the hostile planets that they would find in Alpha Avior.   Unfortunately, once they reach the Alpha Avior System, they were rejected, citing space issues. They were forced to turn to the hostile Surro Aster Cluster and the star systems there. Here, they found few precious golden worlds.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Neo Terrans

Transhumans have a lot of bitterness toward Neo Terrans, viewing their actions in leaving the Sol System as abandonment while they, themselves, were dying, unable to join them. Although they were able to figure out ways to survive out in the Alpha Avior System, and were able to find suitable, if very difficult, systems for occupation, the thought of betrayal remained in the minds and hearts of all Transhumans. Now that Neo Terrans remain stubborn on acknowledging Transhumans in general, and refuse to allow them access to the Alpha Avior System, that bitterness has turned into a sharp type of hatred.

Tubels

Although Genets are the ones who made the Tubels, and they're under the umbrella term of Transhuman, Tubel creation is restricted, heavily monitored, and still ethically debated despite the frequency at which they've been made by certain clans of Genets. There is a stereotype of Tubels being labeled as cookie-cutter by those old enough to have been born on Earth, and are sometimes seen as lacking any sense of individualism. This is false, of course, but the stereotype persists.
