Session 16
Typhon continued his hypnotic gaze-assisted interrogation of the goblin boss, Grubmug, about their use of the Hollow Mountain. Grubmug told the Party that they had restarted the Dwarven forges on the third floor and that they were operating 24 hours a day, creating a mass of weapons and equipment for them. They were also receiving support from various citizens that had been coerced in the towns, as well as a shadowy figure who they referred to as the "Shadow Walker." Typhon asked him if they'd uncovered any Dwarven treasure rooms, but the Goblin had no knowledge of such things. Their use for him having run out, they executed him, but not before entering the room east of the armory and dragging in the corpses littered around the floor and closing the doors.
The Party investigated the room, searching high and low. They soon found indications of hidden runes etched into the wall. They had found the entrance to the vault. The group decided to take a short rest before proceeding, in case there was anything protecting the treasure room that they would have to deal with. After becoming slightly rested, they traced in the runes the way that Thurgramm Hammersmith had shown them and they instantly lit up. The same ethereal light traced the outline of a door that then opened up, revealing a dark passage about 20 feet long, then turning to the left. The group followed, eventually arriving at a room full of treasure and magically crafted items. Deciding it best to fully recover before continuing their investigation of the area, they slept in the treasure room for the next eight hours.
As the Party returned to the large room adjacent to the treasure room passage, they could just barely hear the presence of an unknown number of voices back in the armory. The decision was made to attempt to seize the element of surprise. Bloodbane kicked down the door and stormed in. Sir Didymus and Vigwalin came in behind him. An ogre flung a javelin at Sir Didymus, hitting him in the shoulder. The Halfling returned the favor with an arrow. A Hobgoblin fired his longbow at the Party, missing. Vigwalin cast Entangle. Vines burst out of the ceiling and the floor, ensnaring the enemies and sending cracks throughout the room. One of the ogres struck Sir Didymus with his great club, dislocating his left shoulder in a dreadful pop. Giant chunks of stone fell from the ceiling, crushing the hobgoblin. The cracks began to spread rapidly. The Pary began to run for the stairs, incurring opportunity attacks from the Bugbear and an ogre. The Party was chased through the hall; Vigwalin made it up first. Sir Didymus fired an arrow at a bugbear threatening Typhon, knocking him back into collapsing stone. Bloodbane held the stairs as Sir Didymus and Typhon bolted up them. The ceiling collapsed on the last standing ogre as Bloodbane followed the group.
Back on the first floor, the Party must now find their way out after the partial collapse of the floor in front of them...
