Redford Keep
Redford Keep is a castle located in the small city of Elderburgh. It is home to roughly a battalion of soldiers and has served as a beacon of defense for the city for several hundred years.
Alterations
The keep was originally built in 476 and it originally consisted of a simple wooden motte and bailey. As the town grew around it, and the empire pushed the frontier ever eastwards, the simple wooden defenses grew in complexity. Several iterations of the wooden castle were tried over the centuries, but in the 860s, it was decided that a formal stone keep would be required to defend the frontier.
The main keep building would be completed by 874, with the inner wall added 20 years later, and a second wall added to that about 40 years later in 917.
Architecture
Redford Keep follows in the design traditions of castles built in its day. Squared off towers dot corners of the building and provide overwatch of approaching enemy forces. The walls themselves are built from stone carved from the Collapsing Hillside located to the west.
The keep was originally built from wood harvested from the Huntcastle Woodland. However, as time progressed and the empire expanded to the east, new defenses were erected to match the prestige that Elderburgh held in the region as a center of commerce and defense for the empire.
