Nordic

The Nords originated from the Svaelandic peninsula in northern Hebetica. They founded colonies in Austasia and Neva.

Migration Era

The Nords began raiding overseas during the Migration Era, attacking mainly Austasia and mainland Hebetica.

Early Middle Era

The Early Middle Era brought the beginning of Nordic colonization. Significant Nordic populations had settled in Austasia and the Okhalian steppe (Rosmen).

Subgroups

Svaelander - Located on the Svaelandic peninsula, peninsular nords have a rich heritage of seamanship and raiding. Skeldish - Located in the Okhalian steppe, this group of Nords founded a kingdom among the lands of the nomads, from whom they've adopted a culture of horsemanship.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Mummification

Nords traditionally mummified warriors using sea salt and other preservatives. The mummified remains were then interred in marked burial mounds with various goods to take to the afterlife. Goods included armor and weapons. Accessories such as combs and jewelry were usually included.

It is believed in the Nordic traditional faith that the warriors will return to their preserved bodies for the final war between the gods.

Cremation

Non-warriors were usually cremated on a funerary pyre.

The Nords believed that the physical body must be entirely destroyed to sever one's connection from the mortal world. This allows the spirit to return to the eternal divine.
