Nordic faith

The Nordic faith is the ancient religion of the Nords.

Mythology & Lore

Before time, the world was naught but ice and wind. Darkness covered the land on which walked hollow giants without intention or direction. The serpent breathed a ball of flame into the sky which became the sun. Ice turned into water, creating rivers, which became the seas. The melted ice revealed land underneath, from which plants and trees sprouted. The sun gave life to the hollow giants. From this, the giants gained the ability to create.

From the clay, they molded birds, deer, wolves, and all the other animals. One giant, named Ullr, wished to create something more. From the clay, Ullr molded five men and five women. From there, they spread throughout the world over generations.

Worship

Reciprocity

The gods expect a relationship of reciprocation. This takes many forms, the most common being the simple act of reverence or prayer. Stronger acts of worship include acts such as libations and sacrifice. Sacrifice can be fulfilled by offering any possession of value for the sole use of the gods.

A farmer or homesteader might sacrifice a portion of their harvest, or an animal such as a cow or goat. A city dweller may sacrifice a portion of a meal.

Priesthood

Volva The priesthood of the Nords is composed of exclusively female priestesses called Volva.
