Valsáth

Valsáth is sick.

The well protected, hardy, healthy men of the mountains for generations are now dying by the hundreds to a disease known as Dreyra. It's caused many countries to close their borders to the Valset, and with so many sick or dead, their food supplies are dwindling too.

Valsáth is a proud people, however, and they have yet to ask for help. Those desperate enough to travel beyond their borders either cover their sores (if they are sick), or may lie about their country of origin to avoid being treated like disease carriers - though for all they know, they might be.

Structure

The villages of Valsáth (there are no cities, and barely any towns to be seen) are generally run by a chieftain, who acts as their "mayor," for lack of a better word. Each one answers to the high chieftain, who holds council in Lódur. Their word is law, but any of them can be challenged for the right to lead the village.

Be warned though: failure usually results in death, as is tradition.

Religion

The Valset are not atheists, nor do they follow the pantheon.

Instead, they follow a mix of ancestor and nature worship known as the Urðr. It is extremely common for one to take on a path following an ancestor or a nature spirit (the Path of the Bear is common for hunters, while the Path of Bláinn the Seer is common for those who seek to understand the mysteries of the Urðr itself).

This blend of religiosity is viewed with incredulity and contempt by most non-Valset, and only adds to the perception that the Valset are backwards, illness-ridden heathens and pagans.
