Grund

God of life, mountains, and guardians and protectors

Provider of precious metals, the rich soil, and stalwart protector of the small and meek, Grund is often worshiped by miners, farmers, guards and knights, and the patriarchs of households.

While his worship is not as widespread as his lover, Kona-Karr, Grund is still very important to most of the people of Mercuria.

He is seen as a god of the people, a father to the fatherless, and protector of the home.

The shield and spear that Grund carries were gifts to him by Kona-Karr: the shield made of black locust bark, named Mornsbane, and the spear from the bones of her first and most hated child, named Gristwhistle, after the monster it came from.

Physical Description

Body Features

Not as tall as Kona-Karr, Grund is depicted as a short, barrel-chested man of middle age. His skin, while dark, is not as dark as Kona-Karr's either, with eyes as green as emeralds.

He has long, graying hair that comes down in waves past his shoulders, but a jet black beard shot through with streaks of gray (to represent the veins of precious metals, like silver, that are housed within him).

Apparel & Accessories

Grund is usually depicted with an arm shield made of bark, and carrying a spear with a strip of green cloth (see "Artifacts"). His armor is simple leather without adornment, and he wears heavy workmen's boots and carries a pickaxe on his belt.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

Grund and Kona-Karr are often worshipped together as the givers of life, with Grund providing the fertile earth that Kona-Karr's seeds can grow in. Their couplings produce the many beasts and monstrosities that wander the wilderness, with the legend going that Grund's spent seed awakens the plants and fungi that also reside in the untamed places.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

Both Politia and Grund are seen as "the people's gods," but Politia is normally seen as one of the people, while Grund is a caretaker of the people. They get along quite well, with Politia as a surrogate daughter or niece to Father Earth (again, filling in her role as "one of the people," who also look to Grund as a paternal figure).
