Stub

Noble Bodyguards are usually a smaller unit working under the respective castle or palace Guard, specifically assigned to the protection of a ruler of a castle or palace as well as their close family. Similar units exist in several cultures for protection for bot royalty to lesser nobility alike, and the exact composition of these units may vary. Some common features can be observed though.

Composition

Manpower

A typical unit of noble bodyguards varies greatly in size, usually around numbers from 1 to 12. In culture of islenorian elves these are usually very small task forces, where goblinoids of aldrorai, for example, tend to prefer larger units. Besides of cultural factors, also practical factors and personal preference of the one being guarded affect the size of the unit.

Equipment

Typically, no expense is spared when choosing the equipment of the noble bodyguards, as it is their duty to serve the most wealthy and most important people in their own community. The equipment is often both effective and impressive look at, as appearance is good for the image of their patron.

Equipment is usually also quite uniform. This makes them more recognisable from the crowd and more intimidating. This rule is broken, though, is the particular unit is meant to work discreetly and hide in the masses while doing their job.

Weaponry

Most common weapons on noble bodyguards are spears and swords, but there are large variations on this from culture to culture. Usually, the weaponry is designed for close combat. Shields are also common, as they can be used to cover the person unit is protecting.
