Knights of the Rose Rank/Title in Melphor | World Anvil

Knights of the Rose

Qualifications

All prospective Knights must have received a minimum of five years training in magic. Their rank in the Order must be at least a Knight, thought Knight Radiant and above is preferred. They are most commonly Priors and Crusaders. Traditionally, these women are unmarried and childless, though there have been a few with spouses and children.

Requirements

When appointed to the position, she relocates to Sunhame where she spends the next two years learning the intricacies of the empress's court and the finer points of the law. During those two years, she also bonds with her jyelyar, ensuring that the bond is a tight as possible to make working together seamless. in her third year, she travels with a more experienced knight to learn their specific responsibilities, focusing on places where the newer knight hasn't gone.    They don't typically go into AthrosSilvestri or to Ju’shal’long as those countries are outside of their jurisdiction. If invited, they may.

Appointment

Empress Hihaye chooses the Rose Knights based on recommendations from their commanding officers, field reports, and endorsements from other members of the order. She also takes their magical affinities into consideration. If a knight with a fire affinity retires or is killed in combat, she would want to replace her with a similar individual.   Most are human or lunyari, though representatives from the other Alliance races have served.

Duties

In the early days, they were the empress's personal bodyguards, sworn to give their lives to protect her and their country. During the War of the Roses, they acted as battlefield commanders. During that long and bloody war, only two Rose Knights lost their lives, both at the hands of a Nightlord.   When the war broke out, the roster of Rose Knights was as follows: Mithralyu of House Tarnithen Xalishe of House Malksho, who was killed by Altera Darkrain. Yfendas of House Veltklon Litanya of House Tre’flown didn’t survive her battle Kitori Darkraven, who was the only Nightlord to survive. Xy’sha’nlei of Clan E’lion Kyoshen of House Solien

Benefits

Status as a Rose Knight elevates the status of their House.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Rose Knights are most often seen wearing a partial breastplate, pauldrons, thigh guards, gauntlets, vambraces, and armored boots. They were a long sleeved tunic under a shorter, lightweight tunic that bears their House sigil as seen here.   Like all members of the Order, they carry weapons. Most carry swords, but some use polearms.    Rose Knights are also given a jyelyar. They form a lasting bond with these animals that endures long after they retire from their position. As only Rose Knights are permitted to have one, it is easy enough to identify former Rose Knights.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

After their 12th year of service, they retire, having served out their term. While many choose to take on a lower rank and continue to serve, most retire from the Order altogether.
