City States of Asteria

It is fair to say that no land has changed as much in the third age than the lands of Asteria. At the end of the second age Asteria stood on the precipice of a nationalist upwelling that should have brought the land a wealth of riches and power. However, this nationalist energy was focused on the Great War in service to the Dragonlord, a decision that ultimately doomed the dream of a unified Asteria.
In the years since the end of the Great War the City-States of Asteria have continued to fight over the shattered remains of their lands. This chaos has made it more difficult to gather history of Asteria than almost any other country. As such there may be holes in the information presented that cannot be accounted for.

Demographics

The City States of Asteria are comprised almost entierly of humans, with a few Gnomes and Halflings in the Northern parts. The elves and dwarves that once dwelt here have nearly completely abandoned it.

Government

The city states of Asteria are in a constant state of near war. There is very little nationalism in the country and the peoples of Asteria identify themselves by their allegiance to their Lords as opposed to any sort of central government.

Industry & Trade

The City States ofAsteria are completely self-sufficient in large part due to their reduced population due to the losses of the Great War. but they do receive a sizable amount of income from trading farm goods to Talen' Seere and Whitebark Forest.

Geography

Located in the southeast corner of Lerias, Asteria is a lightly wooded area, with perfect fields for planting and a gently rolling countryside. The True beauty comes from the stone cities left behind by the now extinct Grey Elves. Mountains lie to the north of the country and its center is made up of sloping highlands that are mostly uninhabited. However the land has been badly scarred by their actions in the war. The emerging nationalism fostered by the Quall Family has been crushed and half of the country has been razed. The few remaining cities have created in uneasy alliance with each other mainly for mutual defense from their many enemies in the wilderness surrounding the cities.
