Abyssus

The Abyssus is colossal pit formed after the climax of the War of the Nine Hells. Situated on the wild continent of Colodos and surrounded by the city of Vel Aeterna, the Abyssus is filled with ancient artifacts. It is coveted location for adventurers, more reachable than Metia.

History

Early records of the Abyssus are sparse. However, it is said the Abyssus grew out of the site of the climactic battle of the War of the Nine Hells, where a piece of the Centennial Comet fell from the heavens to banish the Dark One Asmodeus from Materia. Scholars agree the pit has deepened over time.

Curse

The Abyssus is said to be cursed. Some experience the Call, a strange, personalized desire to descend. Related is the Price, which intensifies the further one delves, placing strain on anybody who tries to ascend. At great depth there is point of no return, where the Price grows too great to return alive.
