Rebirth day Tradition / Ritual in Massaolo | World Anvil

Rebirth day

I discovered that the Yue paid no heed to the exact day of their birth. From the highest in society to the lowest, the most specific answer they could give to the day of their birth was that it was before the Rebirth day of this or that year. All men and women born between any two subsequent rebirth days are simply seen to be the same age.

Rebirth day is the Yue New Years and collective birthday celebration.

Execution

Rebirth day is celebrated with parades, fireworks, and dancing. Bakers will spend weeks preparing enough sweets to feed their communities, craftsmen will switch production from tools and weapons to toys and other niceties, and musicians will work tirelessly to perfect the several unique songs for the big day. It is one of the occasions where nobles and commoners alike can be seen celebrating together, side by side. Social barriers are temporarily broken down and public intoxication is commonplace and even encouraged in many communities. Wars between the Yue clans also cease and is where many end as the culture as a whole looks to better itself from the failings of the previous year.   One major component of the holiday is the 'burning' in which people will write down their previous year's failings, sins, and general shortcomings the week before the festival and will toss them into a communal bonfire in the community square at midnight, symbolizing the freedom that the new year brings; a chance to start again, uninhibited by the failings of the previous year.

Observance

The festival takes place annually on the spring equinox as a way to symbolize the rebirth of the community alongside the rebirth of nature.
