Goskurton
"The political reality of the Crown Lands and its laws often requires a 'neutral' meeting ground. A technicality has lead to Goskurton being a quite easily accessible one"Goskurton is an elven ruin from the days of the Dominion that sits within the modern day Crown Lands of Demia, close by to the town of Aelban within Fardn Hold.
Purpose / Function
Serene Era
In the Serene Era, the Goskurton, called "Kahuton" in elven sources, was used as a fortress to ensure security on the River Hyljin route. Little of interest occurred since it's construction until the day that the Human's Great invasions would see the Domi, the forbearers of the modern Demians lay siege to the fortress. The Domi were reinforced with local human tribals as well as a large number of recently freed human slaves, giving them the numbers needed to assault the fortress and neutralize it.Liberty Era
Following the proclamation of the Crown Lands of Demia, all elven ruins, with the exceptions of the cities and towns on the river where humans had lived, were forbidden under the pretext of "no man ruling from an elven throne." This left the Goskurton as a no-mans-land within the Crown Lands alongside a large number of other similar fortresses. While many other fortresses found themselves dismantled, the rulers of Fardn never had either the political will or even reason to do so with many such ruins in their own territory, content to leave them to rot. The ruins' status as being under no authority soon saw it become a popular place for the Tojns of Bokhaufn Hold to pay official homage to the Ekärti, as such homage is required to be payed on neutral ground per tradition as paying homage within the Ekärti's territory would appear to be coerced and paying homage in the Tojn's territory would see their authority over their realm lessened in the eyes of the populace. Thus, the unaffiliated ruin located roughly halfway between Rugle, the capital of Bokhaufn, and Tharsa, the traditional seat of the Ekärti, has become the traditional location where this homage is payed.Architecture
The ruins demonstrate old Dominion style architecture, featuring columns, arches, and domes and favoring open air.
Defenses
The Ruins' elevated position grants them a great deal of defensibility, despite the fact that the structures are often in disrepair. Bandits or other ruffians occasionally need to be driven out of the ruins before they can be utilized. Crown forces are even known to deliberately sabotage the walls and battlements after leaving in order to make their job easier whenever such clearings need to be undertaken.
