Luis de Mendoza

Luis de Mendoza was a Spanish conquistador who came over with Pizarro in the mid 16th century. He and a group of others, including Gaspar Figueroa, heard rumors of gold in a Pyramid Tomb to the southwest of Lake Titicaca. After locating the complex, they descended into the tunnels leading to the pyramid's base and found gold inlaid into the walls, prying a piece out to determine its purity. As they rested in the night, de Mendoza was transformed into one of the first Kharisiri. He lived for hundreds of years, serving El Padre de los Gusanos.   About ten years ago, he met Augustus Larkin, recognizing that something living inside him was powerful and to be obeyed. He served as Larkin's bodyguard and servant for years, protecting the frail mortal shell housing the immortal entity within. Recently, recognizing that Larkin's body was failing, the two devised a plan to free El Padre de los Gusanos from the Pyramid Tomb that trapped it. Hoping to take advantage of the greed of adventurers, they advertised an expedition, but they hadn't counted on the Investigators becoming curious about the reality of the Kharisiri and taking steps to stop them. The group sealed the Golden Ward, trapped El Padre more fully, and de Mendoza realized he was beginning to crumble. He and Larkin confronted the group but were unable to prevail. De Mendoza, no longer immortal, fell and died.   Besides his sword, the only odd thing de Mendoza seemed to be carrying was a Golden Mirror that caused Marcus Samuelson to have strange visions...
