Tender

The Tender is the Merchant's district in the city of Damarask. Here one can find wares from all over East Ymmaria. The Tender is the largest district in Damarask, and also controls the major harbor in Cormorant's Bay. Its roads are wide and fairly easy to navigate. Three main throughways cross the Tender, converging in a hub called Central Market: Tendercross, Hillwalk, and Harborview. Two other main roads: Southgate Street (which exits the Central Market and leads to the southern gate of the city), and Pike Street (which runs the edge of the city and runs north into the Armsedge.

Government

The Damarask Merchan't Guild controls all of the sanctioned commercial activity within the Tender.  A council of 13 members, comprised of the most profitable business owners in the district, control the Guild.

Defences

The district constables that keep order in this district are known as the Tenderwatch and also by the more colloquial phrasing, "The Greens" for the green tabards they wear.

Infrastructure

The roads through the Tender are wide, made to accommodate large caravans and pop up merchant's booths. The buildings near the Central Market are multi-storied stone structures painted a variety of bright colors. As in other parts of the city, gnomish influence can be seen, particularly in the harbor district where the system of cranes, pulleys, and moving docking platforms create a spacious and efficient means of loading and unloading cargo. The platform for the Rockslide Funicular, a large cable car that travels the hill to the Aerie can be found at the docks as well.  Near this platform there is also an entrance to the Undernest Burrows, a subterranean neighborhood of gnomish dwellings.

Guilds and Factions

The Damarask Merchant's Guild makes its presence felt in nearly every aspect of life within the Tender; from setting prices, to negotiating wages and indentures, to keeping competition strong, and creating writs and permits for new businesses to prosper.

Points of interest

The Central Market - In the Center of the Tender, this town square has space for merchants to set up tents and temporary stalls (see the Market Pavilion below).   The Market Pavilion - tent city with various merchants, moves and adjusts every few days. Located in the Central Market and the adjacent streets.   The Spider's Web Inn - Located in the Central Market, a four story inn with various balconies overlooking the Market Pavillion and Central Market.   The Temple of Geminon - A large temple off the Central Market, Geminon's followers help to keep the Tender clean and open for business. The temple itself is circular with a gold ring painted around the circumference at the top, and a gray/iron ring painted around the center. Within the temple, pews surround a large pendulum that swings from the ceiling.   The Docks of Damarask - gnomish invention keeps these running efficiently. Harbormaster's office located here. The depth of the harbor is much greater here than it is in The Sideways Warren, meaning that the docks here handle all traffic for larger vessels.   Cormorant's Bay   The Knave's Nook - A vintner, potion brewer, and purveyor of rare goods.   Gastonbury's Voluminous Volumes - A well organized bookstore, containing a number of books, tomes, and scrolls on various subjects.   Getrude Grouse's General Supply Co. - A general store, run by the Grouse family.   The Rockslide Funicular Station - from the docks, leads to the Aerie   The Platinum Phoenix - Home of fine apparel and haberdashery.   Highcross Estates - Affluent housing and parks, located off of Southgate Street, these manors belong to the wealthiest merchants in Damarask. Well manicured lawns, tennis courts, topiary, fountains and pools. Many of them are bordered by the ancient walls of the city.

Architecture

One of the largest sections of the ancient walls comprises the southern border of the Tender but other than that, this district of the city is largely void of ruins.  The main throughways leading into the heart of the Tender: Harborview, Hillwalk, Tendercross, and Southgate Street; all converge at the Central Market.  Spiraling out from the market, is the aptly named Spiral Street, whose address quadrants make finding businesses and residencies within the Tender easy for those in the know.
