Aerie
The Aerie is a district on the rocky western coastline of Damarask. It is governed by the Aarakocra, who maintain a watch over most of the city.
Of all the districts in Damarask, the Aerie is the least accommodating to non-flying species. Large portions of the district's interior are built into the rocky cliff-face that overlooks Cormorant's Bay, and many of these have no method of egress available if you are flightless. In addition, there are the Perches; three tall, thin spired, platform topped towers that overlook the city.
The clifftops themselves are rocky, windswept, and exposed to the elements far more than those in other districts. Along with the switchback incline and steep pedestrian walkways, this makes the Aerie less navigable, hospitable, and attractive to other races. The non aaracokra inhabitants who do choose to live and work there do so for very particular reasons. The exception is the Undernest Burrows, a system of caves and caverns that wind underneath the rocky bluffs, built expressly for gnomish comfort.
Defences
The district constabulary of the Aerie is know as the Aeriewatch, or more commonly as "The Blues" due to the blue tabard that they wear. Their ranks are mostly comprised of Aaracokra but a small force of gnomes also patrol the Undernest Burrows.
Points of interest
The Perches - tall, thin spired towers topped with large, circular platforms that house a number of aarakocra residencies and businesses. In addition to stairways, every one of the Perches contains a gnomish lift.
Gorm's Pinnacle - located in one of the Perches, this tavern/Inn is popular with the aarakocra and gnome Goldfeathers stationed in the Aerie.
Promontory Cogworks - a gnomish workshop that uses the wind power available to experiment and invent. Offers a variety of clockwork toys and alchemical items.
The Rockslide Funicular - a gnomish cablecar that runs from the docks of Cormorant's Bay to the Aerie.
The Undernest Burrows - A system of caves, caverns and interior rooms that wind through the Aerie. Most of the Undernest is built to accommodate gnomes but a larger, main tunnel includes a platform that rises to the top of the Aerie. The Burrows include a number of gnomish shops. Gnoish innovations are on full display here, with streetlamps illuminating the main thoroughfares, moving platforms that span the larger caverns, and a system of rods and pulleys that connect the Undernest to windmills on the surface that provide power below.
The Jangly Hat - a gnomish joke store that specializes in low magic items, minor traps, and pranks.
The Prime Facet - a jeweler and silversmith located in the Undernest Burrows.
