Mezzaluna

During the Era known as The Sundered Age Mezzaluna was a collective name for a crescent-shaped area north of the River Kawa and south of the Serrated Blades. Mezzaluna is not a “country,” and is composed of a non-standardized collection of petty baronies, freeholds, and small city-states. No common language, culture or race binds these territories. Humans mix freely with the non-human, even the monstrous in some cases. The wealthiest and most influential of Mezzalunan city-states is Freeport, which sits on the coast hard by the Serrated Blades. Freeport is a major trading hub where goods from around Malatoria are routed and distributed. Important trade partners include Gneiss to the north and Ard Almiead to the south.
Mezzalunans (as much as anyone claims that appelation) are individualistic, opportunistic, and libertarian as a rule. The chief political principle that binds communities is a contract of non-violence and non-interference between members. Ironically, Freeport is an exception to this rule. The city is governed by a merchant-king who rules mercilessly. The merchant-king is a covert slaver supplying human chattel to Gneiss. The slaves work building the great Gneissian Wall.
