Gneiss

Gneiss is the largest country in continental Malatoria, in both geographic size and population. They are rigid followers of the God Cymbos and acknowledge none of the other Pantheonic Gods. This strong willed ignorance extends far beyond their religious beliefs, and is a defining quality of Gneissian culture. Gneiss is ruled by ruled by Emperor Achron the XIX who, like his forebears, keeps tight control of knowledge of the outside world from his people.
Utilizing the Wall of Achron at the edge of its vast border, Gneiss has kept non humans, monsters, and other humanoid races completely out its lands. By keeping the outside world at bay, and keeping its cities far from the edge, most of it citizens regard tales of elves, dwarves, goblins, and dragons as mere "fairy tales". Only the soldiers on the border and the leaders in the capital city of Maximus Gnothus know better. Maintaining this secret from the general population is of utmost importance to maintain the Gneissian status quo. Those who seek to divulge it are met with brutal, prolonged, and public executions. They are derided as heretics, and their families are sold into slavery.
Gneissians do know about their chief rival Elendar, however. From the moment that a citizen can hold a sword they are expected to train as part of the massive Gneissian war machine. If called upon, every citizen is expected to give their life for Gneiss in the Elendarian/Gneissian Conflict. By focusing so much of their energy into their military, Gneiss has not flourished in other areas. They are economically weaker than Elendar and Gneissian fine arts and culture have remained static and staid for centuries. Most of its citizenry lives a spartan lifestyle, with few opportunities to move above the station they are born into.
Geographically, Gneiss contains the largest mountain in Continental Malatoria, Mt. Cymbos. It is a revered holy site, regarded as the home of the one true God, Cymbos.
