Elendarian/Gneissian Conflict

The War between the nations of Gneiss and Elendar has been raging since the two nations first encountered each other millennia ago. The pendulum of victory has swung in both directions many times, but for centuries it has settled into a fierce stalemate, with both countries digging into the Disputed Lands on either side of the River Acheron.
Gneiss possesses a larger population and a much larger army, a fact which normally would have seen them crushing Elendar under its boot, however, the Gneissian fear of magic has left them weak to the arcane attacks of Elendar. Indeed if it were not for the battle mages trained at The Arcane Academy of Standopolis, and the crafty work of Elendarian intelligence operatives, the eastern nation would have fallen long ago.
Much to the annoyance of Elendar, Gneiss remained neutral during the War Against the Darkness, preferring instead to see if the Land of Dagrazt could weaken Elendar enough to provide Gneiss with an opening. Although the final tally of Dagrazt's war is still being discovered in Elendar, they remain resolute against their western neighbors.
Both nations have recently found themselves with new leaders at the top. In Elendar, King Orlen the Wise has taken the crown from King Belagorth Avercrombie, while in Gneiss Achron the XIX has taken the scepter from his father. How the two nations may now regard each other is yet to be seen, but there are whispers that both these new rulers seek to finally put an end to the epoch of bloodshed between their countries.
