Dwarves reach maturity at 50 years old and can live more than 400 years. They usually survive to be about 350.

Naming Traditions

Dwarves last names are their clan names and any dwarf that shares a clan name is family. As a race they are fond of naming their children after famous and accomplished ancestors in hopes that their offspring will rise to glory of their own.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Hill Dwarves and Mountain Dwarves have developed distinct cultures based off where and how they live.

History

In the empire Hill Dwarves outnumber their mountain kin by a factor of nearly 3:1 and the more numerous and gregarious dwarves are what most Imperial citizens think of when speaking of a dwarf. The race can be found in all walks of human society and often work as masons, smiths, and prospectors. It's also not unusual for a dwarf to be found in the Vigile or in military or mercenary service. Many dwarves own shops that import goods from all corners of the planet, but because most dwarves are not prone to wanderlust rare is the dwarven sailor or traveling merchant.
Outside the empire the dwarven clans of the hills mountains often live very traditional lives separated from other races if not for trade and warfare. An adventurous mountain dwarf named Jorhin Thunderhammer once lead an expedition of Mountain Dwarves into the northern tundra to found a new kingdom and 'tame' the 'wild humans' of nordic stock. Those dwarves descendants live in a society more open and accessible to their human neighbors.
