The land of Maerl is one in which life is religion and religion is life. Gods and Spirits are what underlie the world, embody the world, are the world. Even this scroll is an embodiment of Knowledge, and the hidden shelves on which you found it are the embodiment of Secrets.

The Foundations

The foundations of the World are Runes. These are the building blocks.

The Myths

Runes are embodied in the world of Maerl by those myths that are created about their existence and interactions. Runes are all represented by Myths: sometimes by many. In turn those Myths may be embodied by particular individuals and represented by Religious Organisations or Cults.

The Ascended

While many Deities have appeared from pre-history, some have ascended to that position from their positions within history. e.g. Token.

The Religions

Many Religions have found ways of managing their relationship with the metaphysical world of Myths through the establishment of Great Temples and their lesser equivalents.
