Philosophy of Light

The Philosophy of Light is a faith common to the region of Inru and its surroundings.

The primary belief of the religion is that light - literal light, not a metaphorical one - is proof of the divine. Light itself is not divine, and they understand the physics behind it, but that the universe has light within it is proof of a higher intelligence in the universe, as this light gives sight and warmth, and feeds the plants that are the basis for all life in the world.

There are no strict rules and tenets that all followers of the Philosophy follow, but the most common, regardless of sect, is that every person must spend a few minutes of each day meditating on the nature of light, and of the divine. This meditation is often done in pitch darkness, as Philosophists claim this helps remind them of how much they owe to light and the powers that give it to the world.

There is no diety associated with the Philosophy of Light, but a great many people tend to conflate it with another religion, and so will meditate upon the Philosophy while giving praise in other ways to their patron deity.

Sub-Sects

The Holy Fire

As light is said to be proof of the divine, some believe that fire must be the truest expression of that divinity. Holy Fire tenets teach that fire is a catalyst for creation, destruction, and transformation. It can be created, directed, and extinguished, but never truly controlled. Some members believe that fire is in fact purer than light, as the sun - the source of light in Lyx - is pure flame.

Followers of the Holy Fire practice cremation as part of their funerary traditions.

The Spectrum

A faith practiced primarily by the Matrica of the Glass clan, the Spectrum teaches that light is divine in its own right, and that the souls of all living things are made of light. Some teachings of the Spectrum claim that every person is not one, but many souls working in concert.
