Avarin

Background

Avarin was found, during her fifth summer, washed ashore near the river bank. She seemed to have suffered some sort of head injury, for she couldn't quite remember where she came from, nor even her parents' names. The local priest, Nestesh, took her in, for he had a son about her age. Avarin was a quiet child --a bit slow, but hardworking and obedient. She took quickly to the teachings of the church of Mayim, which endeared her to her adoptive family.
During Avarin's twelfth summer, a member of the Order of Lost Souls travelled through the area, staying the night at the local church. Avarin left with him, for Nestesh hoped that her piety would prove to be an asset of the order.
Six years later, having completed her training, Avarin returns to the village that is the only home she remembers.
