Session 14 - The Metamorphosis
General Summary
In the never-ending fight for their lives, the party is swarmed by more bats. As Ivan attempts to hold them back, Khoma takes the opportunity to get his third drink by biting Lada's cheek, and transforms into a massive bear. The bear tears off, and Nogat, having the misfortune to be in his way, is laid out by his claw. Instead of chasing the bear, Vashti ministers to him, saving him from certain death. Meanwhile, Irina is quick to heal Ivan so the young man can pursue Khoma.
The bear vanishes out of their sight, but appears to have headed toward the tunnel through which the group first entered the caves. As the party reaches the cave with the extinguished fire they come face to face with a small person who calls themselves Light-Heart. Light-Heart, who quickly sees a stranger in need, heals Nogat and insures their mole is safe. To everyone's shock, the entrance to the cave is blocked, and attempts to budge the stone to leave are futile. Some of the party tries and fails, to light a fire in a now even darker cave. Lada and Light-Heart go to refill a water skin and take a closer look at the stream with stones. The party continues to look for an exit and comes across a cave wall embedded with skulls. Irina insists that they should stay away from the wall but Lada suggests this could be an exit, and the skulls are a way to deter people from looking too closely. Ivan goes to inspect the wall of skulls only to be met with a vile creature made of mud that does not let him get closer. Lada and Light-Heart use double mage hand to lift a skull with glowing eyes, who demands 'life' to answer their question about how they can leave the cave.
In exchange for sapping some of Lada's life-force, the skull says that the exit is down and to the right, the party goes to retrieve Vashti and Nogat near the still unlit fire and hopes to find the exit if they follow the skull's instructions. But after receiving this answer, Irina prevails on them to leave the skull behind.
