Career

Qualifications

All Heilingar must undergo years of training and schooling as an Alvkirk acolyte before becoming a fully-fledged priest of the Alvkirk. They are required to know by heart all regular rites, rituals, and prayers, as well as have an extensive knowledge of religious texts, history, and theology.

Career Progression

Many priests begin their careers within the Alvkirk as mere acolytes, who serve as sort assistants to higher ranking members of the church. When they decide they want to join the clergy, they must undergo many years of training and schooling before they are allowed to lead congregations of their own as Heilingar.

Payment & Reimbursement

Most Heilingar in urban areas are given money by the church on which they may be able to survive, but in many cases a priest takes tithes from his congregation to ensure additional income.

Other Benefits

Heilingar are always held in very high esteem by the communities in which they live, and hold a great deal of sway over the populace. While the church has no official political power, Heilingar are able to organize the people into overthrowing leaders and making significant societal change. After all, to go against the church is to go against the gods themselves.

Perception

Purpose

Heilingar are religious leaders for a world desperately in need of divine guidance. While they bear the title of "priest," Heilingar are specifically a more generalized sect of the priesthood that does not worship any one deity in particular, but instead focuses on the worship of the Alvkirk pantheon as a whole. Priests of one sort or another are present in nearly every town that one can visit, particularly Heilingar, as they are the most common due to their generalization allowing them to cover a wide range of commonplace ceremonies, and not only offer religious guidance, but also personal guidance. Many priests also offer other services, such as indulgences, funerary and birthing rites, wedding ceremonies, and any services for nearly any other rite requiring divine blessing. Many priests also keep the doors of their churches open, allowing travelers and those who are less fortunate a roof to keep over their heads when they are in need.

Social Status

Heilingar are considered to be in high standing socially. While they may not necessarily be as wealthy as many members of the higher class, they are readily welcome amongst them.
