Republic of Damu

Structure

The Republic is led by a council of six Viscounts. Each Viscount is the leader of one of the six largest cities of the Republic. The capital city of Fragos is the largest and holds much of the administration for the Republic as a whole. However, it is not the seat of any one Viscount but is the meeting place of the six. Viscounts are elected into their position by the city's Patricians. Once elected, a Viscount will retain their position for a period of fifteen years. Beyond this, city affairs are managed by magistrates who are elected by the common citizenry.

Public Agenda

The Republic is solely driven by their search for wealth. They are willing to go to war for this but prefer to attain their wealth through peaceful trade and commerce.

History

The lands of Damu were once full of murdering bands of outlaws and rampaging monsters. This was true to the point that trade between the struggling villages of the land was virtually impossible. Then, in the year 206 AoP, a deal was struck between these villages. They wound unite for the sake of mutual commerce. This agreement would cause the level of trust between the villages to grow until the Republic of Damu would be officially founded in the year 256 AoP.

These militia forces vary wildly in terms of composition but generally can be lumped into heavy cavalry, crossbowmen, and spearmen. It is commonplace for city magistrates to hire large mercenary bands to make up a significant portion of many armies.
  • The Damanian Merchant Fleet is one of the premier naval forces on the seas. The Fleet is given a great deal of authority and respect, with the Viscounty Council directly administrating it. Were all of the Fleet's forces to be arrayed at one time, any other nation would be hard pressed to assemble a force to challenge it.
