Arcane Tanish Federation Organization in Loridain | World Anvil

Arcane Tanish Federation

Structure

Tanin is a magocracy where the masses are ruled by a hierarchy of mages. The governing body is divided into tiers. All participants of these tiers are members of magical lodges devoted to the eight schools of magic. The bottom tier of the national government is the Council of Masters, followed by the Council of Grand Masters, then the Council of Arch Mages, and finally the Grand Arch Mage. The councils of Masters and Grand Masters are open bodies where all who hold said ranks are welcome. The Council of Arch Mages is made up of the eight senior leaders of each magical lodge, whereas the Grand Arch Mage is an elected position. Both of these top positions are retained for life or until the individual steps down.

Public Agenda

Tanin is currently focusing on dealing with the unrest and development of their nation after their successful revolt against the Gray Elves of Sahar.

History

The Arcane Federation was founded only twenty short years ago. Previously, the lands of Tanin were under the control of the Gray Elves of Sahar. The oppressors ruled over a great slave empire that encompassed the lands of Sahar and Tanin, as well as portions of Damu and the Forest of Oaile. Slavery was complicated under the Gray Elves. Most slaves were treated just as well as a servant might be. They were given housing, clothing, and provisions and entire families would often be taken care of. The few Gray Elves that treated their slaves poorly were often condemned and punished by others of their species. In their eyes, the lesser races were there to be treated like a ignorant child who required a guiding hand to survive, not as a tool to be abused. However, magic was considered a sacred gift and not one to be wasted on the slaves. Those slaves who showed any magical ability or who were caught studying it, were quickly persecuted and imprisoned. It was here that the rebellion began. Non-Gray Elven mages gathered in secret and began the revolt. These mages would become the leaders of their fellow slaves until the revolt succeeded and the Gray Elves were cast out of the mainland. Since that time, the mages have continued their leadership of the people as the governing body of the Arcane Federation.

Military

The fledgling Tanish military is very underdeveloped in the wake of the revolution. Major cities are well guarded due to their large concentration of mages, but it has been difficult for the nation to maintain order in the countryside without a centralized force. The expansion of the army and the navy is a primary objective to the Tanish government. In the mean time, large mercenary bands are being payed to maintain order in the most volatile areas while adventuring parties are tasked for the more abnormal jobs.
