Culture and cultural heritage

Damanians take pride in their heritage and will often boast that their people have reached the pinnacle of humanity's culture. Any who originally hail from the lowlands of Damu are considered Damanians.

Common Etiquette rules

Generally, Damanians are not overly concerned with etiquette when it comes to the wealthy and important. Respect is something that is considered important for all people, regardless of station. However, a great deal of respect and decorum is afforded to foreign dignitaries and the like.

Common Dress code

In the Republic, it is important to own a variety of different outfits, regardless of wealth. At a minimum, one is expected to own a ensemble that shows one's wealth for important events, dark robes for respect of funerary services, robes representative of any deities one may worship, work clothing, apparel that is appropriate for travelling the city, and a simple tunic for when one is in the home.

Art & Architecture

Damanians obsess over finery in all things, and this reflects in their art. Paintings are regularly made with the finest materials, and it is not unheard of for gold and silver to be liquidized and made into a paint enhancer. Fine sculptures of marble dot the cities of the nation and many city plazas have been entirely dedicated to the display of such pieces. Public buildings are often grandiose in the amount of murals, statues, and fountains on display, and in many cases this is reflected in many homes and private enterprises as well.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

When a child is born, it is customary for friends and family to give gifts of paintings, sculptures, or currency to the child. These gifts will be saved in storage until the time when the child is ready to leave their family home and make their own way.

Coming of Age Rites

When a child becomes an adult, gifts that have been stored since the new adult's birth will be given to the them. This wealth is meant to set them on their way, and to give their new home decor.

Funerary and Memorial customs

At sea and on land, it is common for the deceased to be burned. Once a year, most families will throw a large party in memory of those that have passed on. Memories of the deceased will be shared and old gloried relived.

Common Taboos

In can be considered rude to be too forceful with negotiations. Additionally, mocking the deity of another is an extremely egregious offence.
