Brenbrooke Settlement in Lorannis | World Anvil

Brenbrooke

A border town between Vespmar and Adura, Brenbrooke is cheerier than most other towns within Vespmar.   It serves as a place to stop and refuel before heading deeper into the woods, or further towards the coastline and Mercercle.

Different Areas of Brenbrooke

Colubar Market
A large and spacious marketplace, the Colubar Market is a sprawling district full of small shops, taverns, inns, and other businesses.
  Anguis Park
An expanse of green within Brenbrooke, several local festivals and religious holidays hold their celebrations here. It is also the location of Havenbore's Winery, a halfling winery and restaurant that sources it's wine from several Zhenkefan and secular vineyards and is widely considered a romantic - and expensive - wedding and anniversary spot.

Mornan Library and University
Aurelius Mornan was a human scholar and historian that established Mornan University when he was still a young man. He was the sole teacher, author, librarian, and administrator for the first 20 years of the college's existence, but his egalitarian teaching and his willingness to teach even those students who could not pay for the education offered was noticed and began to attract many more students and staff.   Today the college is no longer free to attend, but it is a bastion of learning and has several courses of study: history, art, language, literature, and many more. There are even small departments that study arcanum (wizards), pattern magic (bards), and other forms of magic. The library is still free for all to use, but none but the students and faculty may remove books from the library.

The Stone Quarter
Tucked back behind the neighborhoods of Ania and the Affluere Grounds is the Stone Quarter: where the tradesmen keep their shops. In Brenbrooke, most items are sold in the Colubar Market either through an intermediary or through their own store front, but sometimes they will take direct commissions (though most still prefer for their shopkeeper allies to take the commission and relay it to them). Due to the cramped quarters, many of the craftsmen share a building and larger tools with one another - such as the blacksmith, armorer, farrier, and weaponsmith sharing the same forge but having different workspaces.

The Affluere Grounds
The Affluere Grounds house the richer families of Brenbrooke, and is generally well policed. The private school for the children of these families is located here, as well as various businesses that curate to the upper crust.

Ania
The middle class, lower class, and poverty-stricken are all generally lumped into the largest residential district: Ania. There are still fun times to be had, but most keep a hand on their wallets whilst traveling through Ania. The drinks may be a steal, but don't let your coin purse become a steal as well.
