The Second Darkness

Burm myth about another Time of Darkness.

"With the establishment of Outpost 4, the first full community settlement on another island, rumors have begun to spread that the old tales will come true. That there will be another age of darkness and that Burim will be especially hard hit. To put your minds at ease, there is no information to support these rumors and we can dismiss them as another superstitious folk tale."

The Myth

The Second Darkness is a telling of the repetition of the Time of Darkness, during which the storms of the Floor rose up and engulfed Breharan for many decades. In this myth, it is said that after the people of Breharan establish their first foothold on another island - specifically create their first city - it would be not their generation and not the next but the one after that would suffer.   The story tells of the same problems that occurred during the Time of Darkness, such as devastating rains, smothering storms, and conflicts over resources. In addition, this second period would contain horrors from down below. The creatures of bad dreams and incarnations of evil, all things that would kill you given the chance.

The Truth

There is no evidence to support the coming of a second age of storms. It is known to have happened once before but scholastic studies of geological formations and deep lakebeds have shown no support for it having happened more than just that once. Some skysailors tell stories of the things they have seen in the storm and when they have flown through the Floor, possibly the same scary abyssal creatures that are spoken of in the Second Darkness.
