Freezing Cloud

Skysailing hazard.

"Be wary for anywhere a cold wind blows you may encounter a freezing cloud. The cloud itself is not that threatening but being unprepared can mean your end. If you fly through it, it will freeze to your ship on contact. Frozen sails may sound scary but it is the deck you should be worried about, don't want to slip off the edge."

Freezing Over

A freezing cloud is a cloud that is at sub-zero temperatures. Freezing clouds form in many sizes from that of a fist to giant blankets in the open sky. Contact with objects causes the water of the cloud to freeze. When such a cloud contacts a person little harm is done. A particularly cold cloud may cause minor frostbite on exposed skin.   Such clouds don't often reach much of Breharan but occur with some frequency during winters in the Orthlands. They are far less dangerous than an average snowfall to these regions. However, they are a common occurrence for skysailors to whom a frozen deck can mean going overboard and falling into the Floor. Frozen sails also pose a challenge as they are far less useful than unfrozen ones.

A Cold Beauty

The most extreme cold freezing clouds freeze as little droplets of ice, these are the most hazardous to skysailors. Most are not that cold and instead turn into something more like snow. However, they often freeze in little lines or structures that are very interesting to see up close and make the light sparkle off of anything from a distance.

Falling All the Way

While falling off a skyship does not provide the same immediate visceral crunch as falling off a rooftop, it is far more dangerous. Since skyships cannot travel over any skyislands - at least under normal cirumstances - this means anyone who falls, falls all the way.   The first thing someone falling will encounter is the Floor. If they survive traveling through the unending storm - and avoid hitting any objects inside - they will find themselves in the Void. This is perhaps even worse than being struck by lightning in the Floor because the horrors that lurk beneath may get the unfortunate falling soul and they will never see it coming in the utter darkness. Even worse, if nothing kills them, they - presumably - continue to fall until they die of dehydration, starvation, exposure to the elements, or anything of that sort.
