The stories of the origin of the Disciples of Tenmon are dubious at best but with no records of the founding, the stories have found their place in history. During the Time of Darkness, in what is now Wysix county, a charismatic man named Tenmon gathered a following and offered them a life without fear. The Origin of the Brave
In the
Graran county of
Wysix the Disciples were founded.
Tenmon promised a reprieve from the fear and hopelessness of the
Time of Darkness by removing the fear from his followers. To accomplish this
Tenmon would expose the followers to frightening things to attempt to scare them. If they were afraid, they would have to undergo trials, painful ones. A disciple who failed too frequently - showed fear - may be sacrificed in front of the others to harden them.
Over time, these tests and trials became more and more gruesome and inhumane until eventually one of the disciples brought something to
Tenmon in a simple wooden box. When
Tenmon opened the box in front of his acolytes, he was - for the first time - unable to hide his fear. It was at this moment that the remaining disciples took their revenge on him and removed the skin of his face and stretched it over a mask of wood - before he was killed. This way, his fear would be forever immortalized in the mask.

Authorities in
Grara are always on the lookout for the Disciples, not because they are causing big problems but because of the stigma caused by the stories of the atrocities and immoral acts the group continues to carry out in the name of their cult. Many have been suspected of membership, though few have been proven, as if protected by some of the more powerful members of society.

The First Face of Fear
Despite the amount of time that has passed since the end of the
Time of Darkness, the current whereabouts of the
Face of Fear are unknown. The last recorded sighting was during a riot in
Irusii early in the
Time of Rebuilding - almost four-hundred years ago.
Now most believe the mask is a myth, just a part of a scary story passed down through the generations. Others believe that the mask has been destroyed, an act a few have claimed they have done. And some believe that the Disciples keep the mask hidden, moving it between members of the cult so that it can never be found.
"Tenmon lay there on the table for his body and his face were still frozen in fear. What was in that plain box, we do not know. But we do know what happened next, that even as the dagger began to cut the skin from his face, he could not move and he could not scream."
