Created through extreme veneration of
Dragons when Pristine Colored Scales are shed from an adult or older dragon they can develop into a kobold. The kobold is uncontrollably obsessed with worshiping, serving, and pleasing their host by any means necessary. Which, in turn, creates more kobolds.
Kobold's entire lives, from their personalities, to their ideals, beliefs, customs, etc. are predicated on who their master is and what crest their master follows(or doesn't follow). Due to dragon scales being plentiful, kobolds are also plentiful. Almost to the point of being a nuisance or a commodity in
Renyth roaming the streets doing the bidding of their masters as no more than mindless minions with a sole purpose of devotion. Due to this, kobolds are often slaughtered or traded off for gold in order to lessen their numbers. However, when they are killed for the first time, there is a chance that they are reborn with no connection to their former host and living of their own volition.
This has lead many "freed" kobolds to flee
Renyth or create hidden settlements within the kingdom to continue their lives. Some kobolds even taking the fate of their fellow kobolds into their own hands by attempting to "free" them from their servitude.
"Freed" kobolds create communities largely based around helping one another to survive and demonizing all types of external worship. Some kobolds do retain some of their previous instincts and begin worshiping people, natural phenomenon, or almost other thing they can think of(including dragons, and dragonborn). But at least this type of worship is somewhat of their own choice. These kobolds tend to form their own smaller, separate communities or more accurately, cults centered around the idea that kobolds are what is important.
Most kobolds encountered in settlements and other civilized communities are "freed" and escaped
Renyth to make their own lives. Some become traders or craftsmen, others become bandits or thieves. General rule of thumb, if you see one kobold there's most likely four more somewhere nearby.
Resembling a small Dragonborn. Kobolds have draconic features with long snouts, scales, and clawed hands and feet. Some might be born with wings that never get the chance to fully develop. In spite of all of their features that resemble dragons they lack certain draconic abilities including the famous dragons breath.
Most Kobolds found in Renyth will be Red due to the
Scarlett Crest that rules there, but among Kobolds in the wild Blue and Green are the most common. Scholars believe that the abundance of blue Kobolds is due to
Troph, River of Fortune.
Kobolds are created through extreme veneration of
Dragons when large Pristine Colored Scales are shed they can develop into a Kobold.
Kobolds reach maturity very quickly, about a month. They can live up to 50 years before beginning to slowly pass over the course of many years after that. Some pass at age 51, others continue until they're in their 70s. In both circumstances, their quality of life is drastically diminished to the point that kobold researchers just reference their lifespan as 50 years.
Due to their draconic nature, kobolds prefer damp, warm, tropical climates. They can, however, adapt to whatever environment is necessary for their survival.
Different societies of Kobolds have their own political and sociological structures. However, most of them default to electing a monarch naturally, through a public meeting of everyone in the society. Once the society is formed and a monarch is selected, that monarch is revered by their electors until the age of 50. Newly absorbed members of an already established Kobold society will most likely not have the same reverence towards an already elected monarch, but will choose their own when the time comes. This leads to many smaller "sub-societies" that have their own monarchs until the larger society's monarch position is void.
Mostly exploited by their uncontrollable need to be subservient, many are used as slaves, household servants, or low wage labor workers. Kobolds naturally love these conditions until they are "freed" by dying for the first time and being reborn.
Kobolds favor the
Dragon that created them.
Overabundance in
Renyth, but can be found all across
Lind to varying degrees.
Kobolds take on the name of the gem of the crest they developed from. For example, If the Pristine Colored scale was that of an Amber crested dragon, the kobold's name would be Amber. Kobolds instinctively know who they are referencing when speaking names, but this can be very confusing to non-kobolds.
"Freed" kobolds may elect to change their name.
Kobolds can find beauty in anything.
Kobolds are genderless and cannot reproduce by traditional means.
Kobolds speak common, draconic, and royal draconic(an ancient form of the draconic language spoken by dragonborn and dragons).
Kobolds have existed for as long as dragons have been worshipped. They've even been around longer than the dragonborn. With the localization of dragons and dragon reverence in Renyth, the Kobold population has increased exponentially and can no longer be controlled by natural means. Their species is at a turning point with rapidly growing settlements of "freed" Kobolds being created throughout Renyth.
