Dragonborn

Mr. Stevey Steve
Dragonborn are somewhat of a new phenomenon in Lind. Due to the many years of localized draconic magic in Renyth, strange birth defects amongst all races in the area have resulted in dragon-like humanoids with strong draconic features.   Kingdoms surrounding Renyth such as Xirith, Ewolia, and even those in Zhinas, The Demon's Haunt are generally accustomed to seeing Dragonborn. But kingdoms to the North may be dismayed at the sight of a Dragonborn.   Dragonborn are born with freewill but are destined for a purpose decided by which Royal Ancestor's Dragon Crest they bear. They follow the same rule as Dragons when it comes to the Cresting and is referred to as the "Ancestor's Blessing" by Dragonborn-kind. A Dragonborn may decide to follow the path they are destined for, or choose their own path.   Dragonborn are generally seen as highly idealistic, headstrong, and strong-willed, though their personal ideals vary drastically based on their crest. The members of the race that go against their crest are seen as weak, immature, or lesser than those with Pristine Coloration by other Dragonborn and citizens of the Kingdom of Renyth. However, citizens of other races and kingdoms rarely care or even know the meaning of the different dragon/dragonborn colorations. The dull members are normally shunned or made to work labor intensive professions for little compensation. Which may lead them to leave Renyth in order to make their own life. This does not mean that Dragonborn with Pristine Coloration do not leave Renyth as some crests lend themselves towards exploration such as the Dragon: Gold Crest or Dragon: Steel Crest. Even this is not exploration for leisure or wonderment, as all crests have a purpose to fulfill.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Bi-pedal humanoid race, but covered in colorful scales with one or many horns, and a tail. Sharp claws and teeth accompanied by glowing eyes.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragonborn may be born out of other races in or very near to the Kingdom of Renyth. Offspring of two Dragonborn parents are also always Dragonborn themselves.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dragonborn generally mature similarly to and live as long as an average Human, however those with Pristine Coloration tend to live longer due to favor from their Royale Ancestor.

Ecology and Habitats

Dragonborn prefer warm, damp, tropical environments that help to keep their hides moist.

Biological Cycle

Dragonborn scales are continuously shed and replaced either dulling or brightening in response to the dragonborn's actions.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Dragonborn all recognize and respect each other as being "greater" than other mortals in the sense that each of them were born with a specific purpose to fulfill and with the crest of one of the Royale Dragons. Though, the extent to which they idolize themselves can lead to judgement and criticism from other's of the species. Dragonborn of differing crests will often disagree with each other and conversations may devolve into shouting matches or fistfights. However, these outbursts are not aligned with any crest besides Dragon: Amber Crest and even Amber Crested Dragonborn can accomplish more for their ancestors through more drastic means.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Dragonborn are revered in Renyth and are often used by the lower class in the kingdom as conduits for connection to the Great Dragon and the Royale Dragons. Dragonborn with Pristine Coloration are more sought out as their connection is thought to be stronger. Many Dragonborn relish in this, many also despise this.

Facial characteristics

Dragon-like, but still humanoid.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Mostly in and around Renyth. Occasionally in Ewolia, Xirith, and the Unclaimed Territories. Rarely seen North of Renyth.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

First generation dragonborn will have a name from their parents lineage, but later generations will choose a more draconic first name for their offspring. Many will adopt last names that reference more like clan names referring to their cresting. Blue Dragon born might choose names that translated from draconic would mean "of cobalt" or "Sapphire Hide".

Beauty Ideals

Dragonborn that are more closely aligned with their destiny and have Pristine Coloration are seen as strong, steadfast, beautiful, and wise. Outside of the Dragonborn race, they are drawn towards people and places with great purpose such as influential leaders or ancient hallowed ruins.

Relationship Ideals

Relationships and nearly all other Dragonborn ideals are shaped by their individual crests. If the relationship or ideal does not further their purpose defined by their crest and bestowed upon them by their Ancestral Dragon, then it is useless. Therefore, Dragonborn are largely self reliant.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Dragonborn speak common and draconic. As do many other citizens of Renyth. However, the draconic language spoken by the Dragonborn and Dragons is an ancient form of draconic language that is very different from the general draconic spoken throughout Lind. Therefore it is referred to as Royal Draconic. Basic ideas can be understood between draconic and royal draconic, but all nuance is lost.
