Mor Epus Organization in Like Clockwork | World Anvil

Mor Epus (mɔɾ eːˈpʊs)

The Guardians of Einelund are an illicit organization spread across all nations of Einelund, even operating in Daewohl and Palacuun (albeit at a limited capacity). Their name is taken from their origins, as guardians of their towns against bandits and marauders. As towns grew into cities and city leadership eschewed local protectors in favor of trained city watch or police forces, these guardians took to racketeering and branched out from there.

Today the Guardians are a well-organized force with a presence in every major city in Einelund and most large towns.

Structure

Guardians are organized in groups commonly called Walls. Any single Wall usually controls criminal activity within a ward or district of a city. This means most cities have several Walls. It is a rare town that has a single Wall.

Individual members who have proven themselves to the organization are Bricks (Ir'los iːɾˠˈɫɔs). This metaphor continues to the the top of the organization. Leading each Wall is a Gate (Eyhed ˈeːiː ʔeːd]) and sometimes a secondary leader referred to as a Back or Rear Gate (Seiluned çɛˈluːn ʔeːd). Initiates are Straws (Pokeivun pʲɔˈkeːˈvʲuːn), a relatively recent term.

In Emelinemos, there is a Wall referred to as "The Castle" (Dria Dejias dʲɾʲia̯ ˈdʲeːɟias). The Castle considers itself to be the leading Wall of the entire organization. This is accepted by the walls in Emelinemos and most Walls throughout the continent at least pay lip service to the fact. There are a few Walls who ignore the will of the Castle, but those Walls are becoming fewer and fewer.
