Caelum

God of the Aether Caelum

Caelum is the God of the Aether and the twin brother of Baratrum. He was significantly younger than his older three siblings and spent most of his life looking up to the trio. Although he lacked the experience of his siblings he more than made up for it in his power. Teho had finally mastered her ability to create when she made Caelum and Baratrum, in fact, Teho had only intended to make one being but there was too much power for only one person.   For the first few centuries of his life, Caelum lacked purpose. He spent most of his days with his brother exploring Levan. It was during this time that the two Gods would grow closer, establishing a strong brotherly bond. These would be the golden days in the time of the Gods. Caelum and Baratrum would travel throughout Levan, keeping the creations and other Gods in check. The two Gods were inseparable. Their bond would continue to grow even throughout the early years of the Years of Strife, where they made an oath to each other that they would remain uninvolved in every conflict and serve as mediators whenever possible. All of this would change one fateful day on a battlefield in Olyid.   A battle was going to take place between two rather minor Gods. Lyra, Goddess of Song and romantic interest of Caelum, was being attacked by Quies, the Silent, and his worshippers. Since Caelum and Lyra were lovers he chose to fight alongside her in battle, rather than serving as a mediator as he had in previous conflicts. Baratrum took this act as a betrayal, the two twins had agreed to stop fights not to partake in them. Baratrum did his best to convince Caelum not to fight, but he could not convince his brother to leave Lyra's side. During the battle, Baratrum tried to convince his brother to stop fighting once more, stepping in between Caelum and Quies as they were about to duel. While Baratrum was attempting to talk his brother out of the fight, Quies disappeared into the chaos of the battlefield. Caelum's and Baratrum's debate was interrupted by the screams of Lyra as Quies stabbed the Goddess in her chest. At that moment an all-powerful rage was lit in Caelum and he charged at Quies with murderous intent. Quies was no match for Caelum and was quickly tossed aside. As Caelum moved in for the kill, Baratrum tried to stop his brother, stepping between the two once more. But before Baratrum could even get a word out Caelum threw him aside. Caelum quickly dispatched the defenseless Quies and then rushed over to Lyra's side as she laid dying on the ground. Caelum began treating his lover's wounds and it was beginning to look as though Lyra would make a full recovery. Until Baratrum stepped in, knocking his brother unconscious and began dragging him away, leaving Lyra alone and wounded on the battlefield. Baratrum carried his brother's unconscious body to their mother so that Caelum could be held accountable for his actions.   When Caelum awoke he was taken to trial by his brother for his crimes of oath-breaking and murder. Teho believed that it was in everyone's best interest that things return to normal as soon as possible since there were still massive wars being waged throughout Levan. Caelum agreed to this decision and was ready to work with his brother again, but Baratrum believed that Caelum should be held accountable for his crimes and refused to work with his brother again. Their relationship would continue to deteriorate when Caelum discovered that Baratrum left Lyra to die on the battlefield and when Baratrum learned that Caelum would continue to help Lyra in her wars. The final end to Caelum's and Baratrum's relationship occurred with the creation of the Aether and Gehenna.   In an attempt to win Teho's support Baratrum began creating Gehenna, a new separate plane of existence outside of Levan. He wanted this new realm to be the home of the Gods and a place where the Gods could practice the act of creation. Not wanting to lose the support of his mother, Caelum began creating the Aether, his own plane of existence that would compete with Gehenna. The Aether proved to be smaller, yet more stable than Gehenna, and as such Teho chose it as her residence over Gehenna. With this final perceived betrayal, Baratrum disappeared into Gehenna, not to be seen for hundreds of years.   Caelum spent these next few centuries living in luxury in the Aether with the other Gods. The Years of Strife had died down as most of the Gods and Goddess chose to move to the Aether or Gehenna. Caelum had even created his own group of Gods known as the Aethoral who would protect the Aether and keep order in Levan. All of this would change during the Years of Blood.   During the Years of Blood, Caelum and the Aethoral took up the defense of Levan against the destructive forces of Baratrum and the Nekonor. As the war raged on more Gods and Goddess were drawn into the conflict until everyone was involved. Caelum would often serve at the front during the battles, slaying countless Nekonor, Patrons, and Champions of Baratrum. Caelum and the Aethoral even lead the final assault against the Nekonor driving them back to Gehenna. Caelum believed that he had won and the war was over, but he was wrong. As he returned to the Aether to receive the thanks and praises of Teho he watched as Teho and Baratrum were both banished to the Void.   Caelum could have taken up the mantle of leadership of the Gods with Teho's absence, as he had earned their respect throughout the war. Instead, Caelum chose to leave to the Aether where he would lead the search for Teho with the help of some other Gods.
