Palath's Landing

Palath's Landing is the only true city in Palathria, and in the south of the Unknown Continent. For those in the Old World, it is known as the 'Gateway to the Jungle', particularly by those from the Republic of Tiressea.
The city was built atop and around ancient ruins found by the original explorers. These ruins bear signs of an ancient civilisation which once ruled the Unknown Continent. The walls are adorned with fading frescos and mosaics of lizardfolk, some riding the dinosaurs native to the continent, or engaged in their strange blood rituals atop profane temples.

Government

Palath's Landing is governed by a city council, who also make up the key members of the government of Palathria. The city council is elected from those families in the city who are wealthy enough to afford the entrance fee to the Priori. The Priori is made up of nine members, with seats vacated when they die, save for the seat of the Duce. All those citizens of Palath's Landing who own property may cast a vote in these elections.

Defences

Stone walls with towers surround Palath's Landing to ward off the dangers of the jungle beyond. These have served well to deter raids by the lizardfolk of the jungles.

History

Founded in 1432 by Nicoletta Palath, Palath's Landing has stood as a gateway to the Unknown Continent. Since the establishment of the Priori, it has proudly claimed to be ruled by its people, or at the very least, a small subset of its people.

Architecture

The majority of the buildings in the centre of Palath's Landing are built from stone or brick. In the poorer parts of the city, timber is used to frame wattle and daub structures. In the humidity and heat of the region, these often require significant maintenance throughout the year.

Geography

Palath's Landing sits on the coast, with a large docks to manage significant traffic. As well as the coastal docks, river docks provide a way to move goods to the city from inland, and for those who would rather not brave the crudely cut jungle roads to travel further into Palathria.
