Melle Canmore (mel-leh can-more)

Melle Canmore is the cousin of Breydon Canmore (co-protagonist of Green Thumb, Golden Tongue) and Inheritor of the winery at Two Sisters Vineyards.

Appearance

Melle is of average height with brown eyes, rounded face, and long dark hair that is often plaited into two loose braids to keep it from interfering with her work. She prefers loose-fitting, but fashionable clothing in bright colors.

Mental

Melle has a big personality that often makes her the life of the party. She tends to be talkative, opinionated, and, at times, controlling, but she is also very practical and business minded. She can sometimes lose sight of what is most important to her in her drive to reach her goal. She cries very easily, both out of happiness and sadness.

History

Melle Canmore was born to Tamara and Theo Canmore in 1245. She was named after the original matriarch of Two Sisters, Melia Tansel. For the first ten years of her life she was an only child, growing up alongside her cousins Jemmik (one year older) and Breydon (four years younger) as if they were siblings, together learning about all aspects of the family business.   Though Melle would always be close with her cousins, her education about the family business diverged from theirs when she manifested Power of Composition at age eight. Instead of a general education about everything, she started learning exclusively about the wine making process. As the only compisceane of her generation, Melle became the next in line to inherit the winery. While she was content with the development, Mellie had always been a daddy's girl and sometimes wished she could be out in the vineyard with her father instead of in the winery with her mother.   When Melle was ten, her sister Justyne was born. The age gap between them would make their relationship awkward, but Mellie loved her all the same.   As she went through her teens, Melle developed a reputation as a bit of a partier, often dragging Jerome along to gatherings of their peers in an attempt to get him to loosen up. She also butted heads with her mother often, both in life and winery matters, and her father often had to step in to break tension between them.   When she was twenty two, Melle and Jerome left home together to study business at Ilium University in Deamei City. Melle always wondered if Jerome resented the fact that his parents had made him wait until the pair could attend at the same time, but if he did, he never said anything. While in university, Mellie met Lukas Copeland, a compisceane from Cosonia who was studying design. The two fell for each other and would become engaged just before Mellie's final term.   The high of the engagement would not last long, however. A month later a terrible accident in Hessen claimed the lives of her father, aunt and uncle. She returned home for a period of mourning, but would eventually return to Deamei to complete her studies without Jerome who had had the responsibilities of the vineyard unexpectedly dropped into his lap. Following her final term, Melle began to take over more responsibility in the winery, sometimes against her mother's will, and eventually began planning for a wedding that had been put off for too long.

Novel Appearances (Spoilers)

Green Thumb, Golden Tongue

Breydon and Jemmik enter the family's kitchen to find Mellie baking pastries to bring to the neighbors at Moren Fields, a local vineyard that Two Sisters has traditionally processed grapes for, in order to gently break the news that their long-time partnership is no longer profitable. After she leaves, the brothers discuss how Mellie and Tamara have lately been arguing late into the night over the winery business and Melle's upcoming wedding.   Over the course of the novel, it is revealed the Mellie and Jerome are in agreement about the future direction of Two Sisters, and that they are working in tandem to acquire Moren Fields.   Later in the novel, Breydon returns home for Melle's wedding. It turns out that Mellie has been overly controlling about the preparations for the wedding not just as a bride wanting everything to be perfect, but as the future matriarch of the family wanting to show the world that her wounded family is resilient and won't continue to let the loss of her father, aunt, and uncle define their future. After an emotional speech to her immediate family, the ceremony takes place and the potentially week-long festivities begin. But the celebration is interrupted by confederate officers coming to arrest Breydon.   Melle's feelings about her wedding being disrupted are never revealed.
