Hessen
Hessen is a town in Cesland that straddles the banks of the Ensele River. It is located in the region of Cesland commonly referred to as Wine Country and, as such, most of its industry and tourism are related to viniculture and wine-making.
Demographics
Like much of Cesland, Hessen is primarily occupied by those of Cesnockwe descent, though the region has seen some diversification in recent years. Much of the wealth in Hessen is concentrated outside of town in the hands of those owning the surrounding vineyards, but the town has few to no residents living below the poverty line. It is estimated the eighty percent of the population earns a living from the wine industry in some way, whether that be through agricultural work, wine production, tourism, or support industries, such as glass companies that produce bottles for wine. Due to the nature of local industry, inhabitants are mainly herbateurs and compisceanes with aggregants in a close third.
History
The land on which Hessen was built was inhabited for many centuries before it officially became incorporated in 734. Proximity to the Ensele River made the area perfect for agricultural purposes, though it wouldn't see a rise viniculture until the late 800s when the focus of horticultural Flora in Cesland trended toward specialty fruits, including new varieties of grapes.
Hessen saw the rise and fall of various families and companies attempting to capitalize on the new trend. The town struggled until a few families successfully established themselves in the area, allowing for the town to grow in order to support the new ventures. These included herbator and non-herbator operations alike. Perhaps the most significant of these was Two Sisters Vineyards started by sisters Melia Tansel and Justise Canmore in 996. The Canmore Family as well as others who found good fortune in Hessen poured money into supporting the town.
As pan-provincial travel became easier, Hessen started to see increased tourism as a part of the wine country region of Cesland. The town developed into a welcoming place that prioritized local goods and charm as a way to generate revenue.
