Cesnockwe

The Cesnockwe are descendants of nine individual tribes that occupied modern-day Cesland. These tribes intermixed frequently both before and after The Great Invasion, so the group is often referred to as the Nine Tribes of Cesland.

The Four Southern Tribes

The four southern tribes are those that inhabited the Purple Foot Islands.

Black Tooth Tribe

The Black Tooth Tribe inhabited Donter Isle. Their name comes from the black-toothed piranha that inhabits the freshwater pools on the island and whose teeth are used in decoration. They were primarily compisceanes known for their development of poisons from the deadly flora of the island.

The Twin Ash Tribe

The Twin Ash Tribe inhabited Isle of Serenity and Wakary Island. Their name is in reference to Shadiya's Peak, a volcano Isle of Serenity. They were primarily made up of melederes and aggregants. Twin Ash melederes often traveled, spreading stories and songs among the tribes.

The White Sand Tribe

The White Sand Tribe inhabited the Esterly Isles. Their name comes from the white sand beaches of their home islands. They were primarily illuminates.

The Iron Fox Tribe

The Iron Fox Tribe inhabited Argelea Island. They were warriors who joined with the Crimson Rage Tribe in fighting with the Rinduma. They were primarily aggregants.

The Five Northern Tribes

The five northern tribes are those that inhabited main-land Cesland.

The Silent Hammer Tribe

The Silent Hammer Tribe inhabited the Thetbron Mountains south of the Pinlow River. They were primarily aggregants known for skillfully created tools and weapons, which they provided to the tribes fighting the Rinduma.

The Crimson Rage Tribe

The Crimson Rage Tribe inhabited the eastern part of Cesland bordering the Eldown River. They were the most violent of the tribes and joined the Iron Foxes in being the primary force against the Rinduma. They were primarily aggregants.

The Bright Woods Tribe

The Bright Woods Tribe inhabited northern Cesland bordering the Pinlow River and Lake Shew. They were primarily herbateurs, but they were known for their skillful aggregants who created beautiful jewelry and accessories using precious metals and stones from the Thetbron Mountains.

The Gifted River Tribe

The Gifted River Tribe inhabited the south west part of Cesland with the Ensele River cutting through their territory. They controlled the trade along the river between the Silent Hammer Tribe and the southern tribes. Primarily herbateurs and compisceanes, they were known for their medicines which were sent to aid with the wars with the Rinduma.

The Silver Wing Tribe

The Silver Wing Tribe inhabited the plains of central and southern Cesland. Their name comes from the silver-winged hawk native to the area. They were primarily made up of herbateurs and were known for their exports of produce and livestock.

Culture

Mixing

There has always been some mixing between the tribes, but the tribes banding together in the wars with Rinduma encouraged it further. While most modern day Cesnockwe are able to trace back their ancestry to the individual tribes, the majority have ancestry with every tribe.

Family Structure

Multiple generations typically live together in one household. Most families look to their matriarch, or oldest female member of the family, as the leader.

Naming

The Cesnockwe have a given name and a surname. Surnames are indicative of the tribe where one is born. Upon marriage, the individual with lower social standing or wealth traditionally takes the surname of their partner. Generally speaking, if there is tribal mixing or great distance between the families, the tribal lands or the family the couple will reside closest to is the name taken.

Religion

The primary religion of the Cesnockwe is Cansonism, a nontheistic religion that celebrates the energy cycle of the world. The primary belief is that all beings are physical manifestations of energy that is released back into the world upon death. All beings, whether human or creature, are equal in this way.

Language

In ancient times the tribes had their own language, but as time went on these languages began to meld together and by 500 AN they spoke a single language with different dialects. It is from this language that the modern spoken Cesan is descended. There are a few historians that still know the ancient languages, but they are otherwise considered dead languages.
