Monarchy of Freyisdel

The coastal nation of Freyisdel is a leader in technology and manufacturing. Although its territory on mainland Pelatoria is limited, its empire stretches to the coast of Quentoria and the frontier of the unknown Anithtoria.

Structure

The hierarchy of the Frey government is structured similarly to its military. Loyalty and obedience to superiors is required, and government officials are expected to display strength of mind, character, and will in order to rise through the ranks of government.

Governors are in charge of individual counties. They are responsible for managing local affairs and upholding the law in their jurisdiction.

Ministers are ranked higher than governors, but they are responsible for parts of national government such as trade, war, transportation, diplomacy, justice, or the treasury.

The government is led by the Prin. The Prin makes all national decisions and their word is considered absolute law in nearly all situations.

Above even the Prin is the Monarch. This figure resides in their palace in Frostport across the sea and rarely makes an appearance in mainland Freyisdel. Despite being almost completely uninvolved in politics, the Monarch is considered the true ruler of the Frey people and a symbol of power and authority.

The Frey Caste System

Freyisdel society is structured around a caste system based on a person's perceived contribution to the nation as a whole. A person's caste determines their job opportunities, wealth, and social status.

The first is the Royal Caste, which is made up of all governmental officials, including governors, ministers, and the Prin themselves.

Below them is the Warrior Caste. Members of this caste are high ranking military officers and special operative soldiers.

Next is the Fisher Caste, which includes engineers, doctors, farmers, and fishers. These people are considered to perform vital work for the nation and are held in high esteem.

Just below them are those in the Soldier Caste. They are the ones who make up the army and navy that warrior-castes command. They also make up the city police forces that maintain order in local areas.

The Merchant Caste is made up of artisans, traders, and any others who perform work that requires training and resources but is not considered vital to the success of Frey society.

The Laborer Caste contains factory workers, ship builders, and other physical laborers.

The Street Caste is the lowest of the seven and is made up of former criminals or their descendants. Every day is a constant struggle for survival, and only the most unpleasant jobs are open to people in the seventh caste.

Moving Through the Caste System

A person's caste is determined by that of their parents, and marriage between castes is illegal. The only way to move up to a higher position is through the military.

Anyone from one of the first six castes is permitted to join the army or navy, even if they were born lower than the soldier-caste. After three years of service, they will legally become members of that fourth caste. Especially dedicated and exceptional soldiers may even have the chance to become high ranking officers in the warrior-caste.

In contrast, it is very easy to move down through the castes. Major criminals are usually punished by demoting them to a lower caste. Treason is considered the greatest criminal act possible, and traitors to the state are barred from the castes entirely. Those who are not executed will leave Freyisdel forever.

Culture

Frey culture highly values order and puts the good of the state over any individual. Practicality is commended and waste is not tolerated.

Despite its relatively small size and population compared to nearby nations like Jirithkae and Marrith, Freyisdel has become a leading industrial and military power thanks in part to the governments strict control over resources. It is also an infamously strict and harsh nation to live in, especially for those below the top three castes.

Territories

In addition to the ancestral land of the Frey in Pelatoria, the Monarchy of Freyisdel also controls the city of Frostport on the southern coast of Quentoria as well as several colonies in Anithtoria.

Agriculture & Industry

Mainland Freyisdel has very little farmland and relies on its fishing industry to supply food for the population. Other types of food are imported from its island territories or from neighboring nations such as Ain.

Although it is severely lacking in agriculture, Freyisdel is a leading industrial power that produces steel, coal, and oil.

Infrastructure

The Frey take pride in their cities and infrastructure. Many engineers strive to make a name for themselves by designing the most impossible looking and technically impressive piece of infrastructure possible. This mindset has resulted in many of Freyisdel's greatest technological wonders and more than a few disasters as well.

Frey cities are packed with towering buildings of steel and stone. Extensive pipe networks weave in between buildings to bring water to homes and oil to the factories. Railroads run back and forth across the country, and it is rare to find a town that is more than a fifteen minute carriage ride to the nearest train station.
