Kingdom of Thurnetorre
Structure
The kingdom is headed by a hereditary monarch who is believed to have been chosen by the god Melihk-Vemer and who possesses most of the political power in the nation. They are limited by a constitution that protects some basic rights for all citizens, but the ruling monarch can still create or eliminate nearly any other law they wish.
Although not legally required to consult to them, the monarch is heavily influenced by the interests of the powerful and wealthy nobles of their court. There are twelve noble houses in Thurnetorre. They have significant political and economic power, and each one controls one of the twelve Thurnetorrian provinces.
Culture
Thurnetorrian culture is heavily influenced by life in the old empire's Imperial Age four hundred years ago. Traditional titles like baron and knight are still passed down to new generations.
Technological Level
Thurnetorrian technology lags behind many of its neighbors' by several decades. Its trains still run on steam rather than the newer diesel engine, and railroads only connect the very largest cities. Most common citizens use carriages, horses, or simply walk.
Religion
Religion is deeply intertwined with Thurnetorrian culture. The official state religion is Melihkism, whose dual god Melihk-Vemer is said to protect and nurture all people within the borders of Thurnetorre. Religious wars have been common throughout Thurnetorre's history, as bringing more people under the banner of Thurnetorre is considered not only justified but commendable under Melihkism.
Small temples dedicated to Melikh-Vemer have been built in nearly every town, and members of the clergy are influential community leaders. Even citizens who don't consider themselves especially religious will still attend gatherings and swear oaths by Melikh-Vemer because it is such an integral part of their heritage and community life.
