Yaksha

Yakshas (Sanskrit: यक्ष yakṣa), also spelled yaksa, appear in Indian mythology. The feminine form of the word is yakṣī or yakshini (Sanskrit: यक्षिणी yakṣiṇī).
Yakshas are nature spirits. They are generally benevolent but sometimes mischievous, capricious, or even murderous nature spirits who are the custodians of treasures that are hidden in the earth and in the roots of trees. They are powerful magicians and shape-shifters. They are known for their copper-colored eyes.   Kubera, the Hindu god of wealth, is the king of the Yakshas, who rules in the mythical Himalayan kingdom called Alakapuri.   Yakshas are prominent figures in Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist mythology. Yakshas appear in their texts and are depicted as guardian deities in South Asian and Southeast Asian temples of the ancient and medieval eras.   In Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist texts, yakshas, as a class, can be an inoffensive or even benevolent nature-fairy, associated with woods and mountains.
However, there is also a darker version of the yaksha, which acts as an evil spirit that haunts the wilderness and waylays and devours travelers, similar to rakshasas.
