Sea Fortress Settlement in Laria's Ninth World | World Anvil

Sea Fortress

The Sea Fortress is a defensive castle, south of the Forest River. It was built over a small coastal village, abandoned after the war. It was build to keep an eye in both the sea and The Westwood Forest with the idea to have an early warning, if problems were coming to Serene.

Demographics

The castle officially keeps 50 to 80 soldiers. It would also keep some civilians to tend to some small fields surrounding the castle and other supporting tasks. Most of this people, has come from Serene
Unofficially, this castle can hold up to 200 soldiers. Including some non-humans soldiers. This is because this is habitually used as training grounds for the Red Serene council.

Government

The castle is considered part of Serene, which is administred by the Militian in city prefect and chief.   In practice, the fort is controlled by Garrison Chief. Whit the city chief, visiting the area from time to time to inspect the location.
The last two Garrison Chief have been red-coloured assistants, so this fortress is being treated as the main place to train and expand the The redwood alliance military.

Defences

The small city is built on a cliff over the sea, which makes it defensible from the sea. There is a stone/synth fortification covering the rest of the city, which can be bosted by some defensive numenera if the situation calls for it.

Infrastructure

The castle is actually a small fortified village, with the capacity to hold all soldiers and civilians to support them. This means the castle in the centre is surrounded by a good number of houses, a small tavern, a smith, an artificer and even a nano post.   The mainline of supplies are coming from the sea, as it is safer and more reliable than the land routes. This brings to the city all supplies that can't be grown in the town itself, new recruits, news and high-level personnel.
A number of houses, even when they look like the rest, upon entering are conditioned for non-human habitant. A fact which is easy to hide, as no one with enough position to cause trouble for this, would be inclined to enter small peasant houses.   There is a second line of communication using the river, that goes to The Westwood Forest. This is mostly used for alliance recruits, food and numenera.

History

The fortress was started initially by the royal forces, which occupy the city, after the war. After the pacification of the city. It became a bastion to fight the unknowns out there and keeping the area around Serene.
With time, more and more of the recruits come from Serene itself, which open the opportunity for The shadow council to seize control of the Garrison in chief. Which they did, 50 years, now the role is being herded by one of the red coloured assistants and at the moment, is transitioning its role from a defensive structure to a more training ground for future conflicts.
