The Wild Coast
The Wild Coast is a stretch of land from the northern coastline of the continent to the Great Lake, from the Fens in the west all the way to Safire Bay. While it was once claimed by the great kingdom of Rosalind in its heyday, the Wild Coast was always an unruly outpost of the kingdom and bent the knee begrudgingly. When the Betrayal Wars (known in Carador and Erynland as the Independence Wars) were declared, the Wild Coast stopped all pretense of loyalty to the Rose Throne and declared themselves independent.
The Wild Coast today is a turbulent and violent place of shifting loyalties and near-constant strife between the various city-states and walled towns that dot the landscape. Yesterday's enemy is often tomorrow's bosom ally as treaties are made and broken, and alliances shift like the wind.
Geography
The Wild Coast stretches between the oceanic coastline of the Blood Sea in the north and the freshwater Great Lake in the south. The land between the waters is mainly plains and small rolling hills, with stony and sandy terrain closer to the seacoast.
There are no man made roads on the Wild Coast. Some say that while roads were planned, funds never materialized to build the roads before the local folk rebelled against any dominion save their own. Others claim that roads were built, but torn up in acts of rebellion against Rosalind during the upheaval that came with their independence. Whichever is the truth, the only lanes leading from one settlement to another are simple dirt tracks, if they exist at all.
