Hags

Her cabin is quiet but busy. A spoon stirs in a cauldron without a visible hand to move it, and a broom leaves the corner of the room to sweep up spilled potion ingredients. A lagom woman with a cat's tail turns away from where she was reading her grimoire at the cauldron's side to stare at you with slitted, golden eyes. "You're just in time...I did need someone to test this potion on. Oh, don't fret! It'll only take a moment and it's just to make the one who drinks it invisible for a few minutes. Completely harmless."

Basic Information

Biological Cycle

Hags are made when witches perform a ritual with their familiars. They merge souls into one body, granting them the ability to shapeshift, as well as other abilities; their magic is heightened.

It's unknown if they morph more than they already do when they first change, but they do take on some features of their familiars.

Behaviour

They're usually no-nonsense, but that doesn't mean all of them are cold. There are one or two out there that are mild-mannered and pleasant to be around. Those can be found outside small villages, and they act as the village healer.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They're solitary, only meeting for certain holidays. They don't get along with each other, but their yearly rituals must be performed as a group. Outside of those holidays, they're usually hostile toward one another.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

It's said their fingernails can be ground up and used in healing poultices; this is a folk superstition.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They can be found anywhere, but they particularly like plains regions.
