Van Krill Character in Laminarum | World Anvil

Van Krill (vawn)

Murder, Conspiracy, Terrorism, and Treason

Van Krill, the lone elvish member of the Griarvarsi, was positioned to protect and serve the will of the Augurs. As an enforcer of the ideals of the Augury, Krill grew comfortable with jobs such as assassination, which he had always believed served the greater good. It wasn't until the Augurs informed him of a vision which saw the humans attempting to overtake the coasts of Silse that the dark elf would begin considering his position in the greater world. Seeing that the government would take no action in preventing their future atrocity, Krill began taking action to subvert the will of the Augurs such that they would be appeased while he could plant the seeds of rebellion.   In one of his many ventures into the marsh, it is presumed that he met Arniel Kane and learned of plans to halt the progress of the Augury. Through unknown means, Kane would convince Krill to assassinate one of the consuls, who served under the Augurs. With such a show of betrayal in the face of the government's ideals, Krill would be relocated to Jadethorn prison where he awaited further instruction from his new "partner." While his presence managed to assist in the siege of the prison by Kane's forces from the Quai, he would be captured and tortured by the mad Thanid. His death was neither a shame nor a joy, as one can only imagine the horrors Krill saw before his eventual death when Jadethorn was taken back by Augury forces.

Time as a Griar

Krill served faithfully as a member of the Griarvarsi for years. He was a dark elf, making him the only nonhuman to ever join the ranks. Those who worked with the elf claimed that he was usually cold in demeanor and asocial. No one figured he had an inclination against the Augurs, however, as he had often displayed acts of intense violence merely at their word. Like most griars (or so was thought), he implicitly trusted those who gave orders and served for a better tomorrow. The skills he learned included various cosmic magics, healing, and those that would assist in subterfuge. His capability to mislead others was renowed once it was uncovered, as he managed to subvert the prophetic visions of the Augurs without warning them as to his dissent.

Griar Revolt

The griar revolt sparked the greatest tragedy in the Augury to date. While there was clearly growing discontent within the organization for years, it seems that Krill was not affiliated with the rebellion. He independently assassinated a consul in the months prior, but the griar revolt only brought the deaths of the Augurs, leaving one consul to rule. While both of these incidents were related to Kane himself, it seems that Krill was a small, tangential, and possibly unnecessary step in achieving political power.

Jadethorn

Krill resided in Jadethorn for the entirety of The Silence  . He was allowed to go eat in the cafeteria and take part in other communal activities, as his behavior during transfer did not imply he would be a violent individual. After arriving in the prison, he would assault a guard and two other inmates. The incident resulted in his relocation to the center of the prison in solitary confinement. While the reason for his outburst is unknown, it is possible that he wished to reside further from the future siege's origin point in order to guarantee his own safety.

"A request to Consul Lainor,   I have recently come upon an issue of sensitive design with regard to the augurs. I would like to discuss the subject in private, as if this letter were to be intercepted, the plans of outside parties may hasten. I request that you urgently seek me out, outside the chamber of our divine augurs. I do believe the future of our endeavors with Eldurgrund may hinge upon the information I have come by. Say nothing of this to anyone, aside from those you trust most dearly.   In discression,   Griar Van Krill.
