The Rhythm and Vile

The Rhythm and Vile is an item of great religious significance to the humans that reside under the Augury. While its location is unknown, the church puts great stake in finding the instrument, typically depicted as a harp. Its location is unknown, but one is sure to find its mosaic depiction upon many church walls within the domain of the Augury. The item is both feared and revered, as it has caused the downfall of dragons and other Ohdaufehl in its terrible wake.

Capabilities

The Rhythm and Vile is said to sing the Discordant Melody, a corrupting spell constructed by Milin Orphi. The instrument taps into cosmic laws, theorized to be related to the eldritch entity known as Taev. Wherever it sings, people turn on one another, those that are pious fall, and civilization is smothered into depravity. Many theorize that it caused the The Starfall Rupture  , though popular opinion believes the arrival of Verivem and his comet facilitated the cosmic changes in the era of Ettermiddag.

Uses

The harp has been used to bring the fall of divine entities, such as the Ohdaufehl , from their seats of divine authority and into lives of mortality. Known examples of this are the fall of Erengel, the Darklight; Epithet, the Fleet; and Eshiren, the Waterblight. These fallen individuals are categorized as "Aufalten," and are often treated with disgrace for abandoning their gods and masters.

From Beauty to Chaos, the Rhythm Grows

The Rhythm and Vile was originally a beautiful harp in the possession of Silset, the human goddess of love. This holy artifact of the Ohdaufeen brought the eyes and ears of many to the tallest peak in the realm, where its wielder would play a song to bring peace across the world. In the days of myth, however, the artifact attracted the ears of Milin Orphi, the Ancient Ithitar and devil of depravity.   Patriarch of the Ithitar family, Milin Orphi ordered one of his "children" to retrieve the instrument. The task fell upon Vail Ikidas, who wished to prove herself to the primordial deity. Being a creature of cunning and deception, she would end up falling for the instrument and apologizing to Silset for attempting to steal it. The goddess of love would proceed to show peace and forgiveness, letting Vail keep the instrument, in hopes that she would eventually return to play a song. Unfortunately, Milin Orphi discovered the betrayal, punishing Vail and taking the harp for himself. Before the devil of deception, he would warp its strings and ordered tune into a song of discord and corruption. He turned its powers upon Vail, corrupting her into a loyal subject, transforming her soul into that of an Inutherin and forging her into one of his own generals.    The corrupting music of the instrument is said to bring chaos and destruction upon the lands. Fortunately, the instrument was lost millennia ago, and the search to find it before Orphi has been ongoing ever since. Should the devil find it before the Augury, he will play is vile Discordant Melody and champion a new age of darkness, as seen in Ettermiddag.
