Jie Teka

J'bar Devotee Jie Teka (a.k.a. Teka the Incomplete)

Jie Teka was a celebrated leader in his time, recognized for organizing Lire construction efforts. While the first wall was a full communal effort, the second one required motivation. Not everyone was thrilled about building another wall within their lifetime. Jie Teka knew convincing them would be difficult, but he had a living god on his side to help convince them. Together, they convinced their builders and gave incentives to start construction.   Teka could possibly be seen as the first Brille leader to be considered "above" his people. After all, that was the purpose of the 2nd wall's construction. He lived a decorated life, especially when his wall was finished. His home still exists today as a preserved historical piece, and was the starting node for the 3rd wall of Brille years after his death. Perhaps more note worthy than his involvement with Lire, would be the relationship he had with J'bar. While J'bar wandered Renad extensively, this may have been his most involved mortal friendship. It is possible that Teka sought romantic relations with J'bar based on select excerpts, whose original copies have since perished. Whether J'bar knew about these feelings or reciprocated is unknown. Most assume that J'bar did know but did not feel the same way.   Even though Teka was a hero of his time, he is highly criticized by modern Brille for several reasons. Most within the city still honor his construction of a new wall (and this even impacts their modern religious beliefs on class) but they hate that he spread J'bar worship. On top of this, his homosexuality and suicide attempt paint him as a poor leader. Not only was his desire to be with a male J'bar frowned upon, but his desire to be with a god is also seen as self aggrandizing.   Even in modern times with J'bar centric rebellion groups, it is hard for any side to take Teka as the face of their movement due to his conflicting choices and actions throughout life.

Sexuality

Unknown, possibly homosexual

Accomplishments & Achievements

Teka was renowned for leading the construction of Wall Lire and spreading the worship of J'bar. The two became good friends over time and many suspect it was more than friendship.

Failures & Embarrassments

Failed suicide attempt using a knife that his friend J'bar gifted him. Though he died less than a month later, many still question what possessed him to do such a thing.

Mental Trauma

While he lived a life of luxury, he still spent much time working with his hands. Due to his suicide attempt, it is assumed he lived with some level of trauma from a past life event. Indeed, records show that he did grow unstable in his later years of life and displayed increasing levels of selfishness and narcissism.

Morality & Philosophy

He lived a life of collectivist ideologies until his later years. Extensive exposure to the god (and his good friend) J'bar seemed to have curbed his ideas over time.

Taboos

Possibly homosexual (which even today, is frowned upon by the J'barri of Roja and Brille.

A Sick Mind

No one truly knows why Teka tried to kill himself, but his methods were well recorded. He stabbed himself in the stomach and fell off of Wall Lire, down into the Tirni section of the city. Seeing as no priests resided on the Tirni side, it was a long time before any medical assistance reached him. Although he miraculously survived the 200 foot drop into a farmer's pig pen, he died roughly 20 days later (on the same date as his birthday).   The knife found was famously given to him upon the completion of Lire by J'bar. This has caused some to think that Teka confessed his true feelings to J'bar and was rejected. This interpretation has become the subject of many plays throughout Renad and was further reinterpreted for plays throughout the human empire and Elvish continent. Though it has been changed to be appropriate with the culture's it is brought into, the concept has become a whole genre on its own (usually called the 'Tekani Play') that could be seen as a tragic romance outline.    Unfortunately, with no guards or witnesses from such a height, no one knows if this is actually the case. Further, Teka became reserved in his later years leaving little information to go on.

The Teka Sickness

Teka's successor was intended to be his eldest son (Ti Teka), who was roughly 62 at the time of his father's death. Unfortunately, soon after his crowing ceremony he met the same fate as his father. His mental state quickly declined as leader of Brille. Some think it was too much for him to handle, but rumors began to spread that the Teka family had a sickness of the mind. This would be justified through their suicides, Jei's possible homosexuality, and their selfish tendencies. After Ti killed himself during a public gathering, much of his family met the same fate. One of Teka's nephews was even murdered by an extremist group within the walls of Lire after saying "Once it's my turn, you can bet I'll bring some peasants in. It's time for a new wall." He was killed by a priest of J'tsan.   This illness seemed only to effect the males of the family, oddly enough. When there were no more males to pick, and the superstitious ones declined, Teka's eldest surviving daughter (Teka'Maut) ascended to leadership at the age of 32.
