The Legend of the Four Titans

Stories tell that before Laeriss was Laeriss there were four titans sent down onto the great well of energy which would one day become The World Core. They built Laeriss by hand and defended their creation when after the splitting of Vallusios into the other gods, a tarrasque was teleported from a far off plane onto the planet. After a series of events the earth titan was trapped in what would soon be known as Mt. Colossus with the tarrasque, where he would subdue the tarrasque within the mountain for eternity. Most scholars can attest to this legend as being true, as records exist of The shadow legion possibly traveling to Mt. Colossus and tearing open the mountain with epic magic in order to bring out the tarrasque. Of course scholars did not have much time to study the scene as a literal tarrasque had just been released and The Solstice of Shadows started soon after. It is said that while after the events of The Solstice of Shadows two of the titans died, the titans of earth and flame, the other two still remain, the titans of the sea and sky, somewhere on Laeriss these titans most likely still exist, hidden where mortals cannot find them.

Summary

It is said that before there were sentient species, before the original god Vallusios had split into their many different forms, they sent down four great titans to terraform the developing world of Laeriss. These titans were sent down to create a world around one of the great wells of potential energy within the primordial material plane, as they used its power and controlled the well of energy it soon became The World Core of Laeriss. These titans were Akesalis, titan of the sea, Ygtevir, titan of the earth, Teksalak, titan of the flames, and Zerāissil, titan of the sky. Originally they minded their own business, each taking parts of the world and building it with their respective elements, but then Vallusios split and chaos was released into the planarverse. One of the results of this new chaos was the sudden and strange, completely random and totally unlikely teleportation of a tarrasque from some distant far plane of existence onto Laeriss. Akesalis, Teksalak, and Zerāissil all worked together to create a great mountain which could seal the tarrasque away and stop it from destroying their newly built world. Yet Ygtevir refused to help the other titans, instead wanting to focus on continuing to create what would be the majority of the world. Zerāissil brought him up to her territory in the sky where Ygtevir was at a disadvantage and could be promptly beaten by Zerāissil. Ygtevir fell down right in front of the great gash in the mountain which required his power to be sealed, the other titans pushed Ygtevir and the tarrasque into the nearly hollow mountain where Ygtevir was forced to seal the mountain using his power, putting the duty of subduing the tarrasque within the mountain on his shoulders for all eternity. It was said that those who attempted to burrow too deep into the mountain would instantly have their cave collapsed by Ygtevir in his constant effort to keep the mountain sealed. It was said that only a great display of power could possibly split open the mountain and until then Ygtevir would hold the tarrasque in its place forever, of course that mountain is Mt. Colossus, a mountain of great elemental and extra planar magic.

Historical Basis

It is said that some saw the giant gash within Mt. Colossus shortly after the tarrasque was unleashed, and some say they saw The shadow legion traveling there shortly beforehand. While those who say they have come into contact with a titan are usually regarded as simply being crazy people, the zone of truth has revealed that some who say they've met a titan are saying the truth. Few scholars have every found a titan themselves but those who do have written extensively detailed reports on everything they can observe about them. Based on the extremely rare and occasional titan reports received by the scholars of the world, it is thought that Ygtevir lived within Mt. Colossus before the solstice, Taksalak lived deep within the molten layers of the planet before the solstice, Akesalis still lives on the bottom of The Carili Sea at its deepest parts, and Zerāissil lives concealed by the clouds far above Mt. Colossus.

Cultural Reception

While to most the story is an important creation myth about the origin of Laeriss and Mt. Colossus, to the goliaths and giants it is extremely important to them. Giants hold it close to their identities that the four creators of the world may have been titans, a extremely powerful type of giant. Goliaths and giants living on Mt. Colossus respect it as the old home of Ygtevir and storm giants above the mountain respect the sky as the home of Zeraāissil. Tritons, Sea Elves, and other deep sea dwelling creatures respect the deepest trenches of The Carili Sea as territory of Akesalis and those deep within The Molten pits respect the magma as the tomb of Teksalak.
